Parker does not like his crate.

We are having problems with Parker fussing when we put him in his crate to go to bed at night. He barks, whines and carry's on like he is being killed! My breeder said he is fine in the crate at home. I do have a kong around here some where.
I know this is a new world for him and he is on the shy side. Comes to us when we are sitting down and sometimes won't come all unless I have food. When he does come to you he is very loving and loves to give kisses.
He layed in my lap last night for almost 30 min.

How long does he carry on while in his crate? Does he do it when you put him in the crate during the day?

Usually a half hour, one night actually his second night here it was 45 min. I took him out again halfway but that was not what he wanted. He does fuss when I put him in there during the day. I do put him in with a treat.
I hesitate to put a kong with him since I am not sure if he will chew it and eat it...like Zak.

Maybe you should work up to the nighttime crating. For example, just put him in for 1 minute during the day with a couple cookies. No fussing, give him a cookie and let him out. Then try again for 5 minutes, etc...and every time he gets something fun and delicious.

Also, do you feed him in there? That might help too.

I have been feeding him in the kitchen with Maggie and Zak so he feels a part of the pack- but those are really good suggestions and I will try them.

When I got Ember she was crate trained at her breeders and supposely did fine.

At my house first night, she screamed not cired,SCREAMED! at the top of her lungs for 2 hours stopped for 10 mins and then screamed for an hour. She would also scream if I put her in there during the day. I made a point to not paid attention to her at all if she was fussing in the kennel. I just threw a blanket over her kennel and just ignored her. The second night she again screamed for almost 2 hours but then stopped for the night, third night 45 mins ,fourth day 10 minutes and 5th night nothing. She never made a peep again. Now days she sleeps in the open kennel 90% of the time.

The key is ignore them and never let them out when they are making noise. Only open the door if they are quite. I also recommend eating them in the kennel to help assicate it with something good.

We have been ignoring him last night it was less but today I had to put him in there 3 times when I did errands and clean the house and the third time he was horrible. But I was in our room reading and he came in there playing with Zak and once he went in his crate and layed down- so maybe he will turn that corner soon, I will feed him in it tomorrow.

Susan, how'd it go last night? Did you feed Parker in his crate today?

Luckily all three of mine love their rooms!

I don't think he fussed as long last night. But if you put him in there during the day he turns into a grimlin!!!
Last night we had a dinner party and I put them all in our room till the guest came in and I went to get them Zak and Maggie came bounding out to see everyone and Parker crept down the hallway. He is not happy to see other people ,but later did let one of my friends hold him.
This morning he and Maggie got into tiff, Maggie is not good at sharing. She had her treat ball and Parker wanted it she gave him a stern correction and he does not back down I had to separate them. He is a strong willed puppy even when I stop him from chewing on something he barks back at me.
Zak was such an even tempered, easy going puppy and dog. He will even let Parker take things from him, I don't like it, and I don't want Parker to learn that is okay.
But then he has his so sweet side, he climbs in my lap to sleep. He is super good about going out side and going to the door and goes to the door to come back inside.
