Peculiar (Coonhound?) paralysis?

Steroid bashing is one of those internet cliches, repeated so often it has become accepted as fact.
As I always tell clients before the infamous 'Depo shot', there are several bad things about cortisone, especially for long term use. And there is only one good thing. They REALLY work.
Yes, it is far too easy to fall into the 'keep him on steroids and you won't see the symptoms' trap, and we must work to avoid that at all costs.
Certainly, more than most, a drug that needs to be respected, but not feared.

Juliet went through a similar sudden lameness in her hind legs. Slipped disc was diagnosed but she was in no pain and another vet also suggested partially torn knee ligament as she could at one stage actually take a few steps with a bit of a limp (then plop down again). On the afternoon it happened, she was given a shot of steroids and in a few hours was up and walking again, and by morning was eagerly trying to jump up onto the sofa to share my husband's breakfast bun.

In the end, like you, I never quite figured out what the heck caused it (making me worried it might occur again out of the blue). But that shot of steroids fixed it. She's back to normal (running, jumping, playing, doing agility), with a sliiiiight dragging of the limpy leg that I only realized coz I hear the nail scrape on the ground now and then.

Out of curiosity, can gastrointestinal issue affect the nervous system? Because what happened to Juliet also happened to a friend's dog (2 days apart) and both had food from the same dog party (Juliet didn't actually go - I brought food back for her).
