Pet monitoring app/system?

Hanne - sounds good, then I can hook it up in the kitchen, watch out Tully!

Found the dlink camera in the big supply store here in Australia, and marked down to $88. It's meant to be. Might even buy one for my mum as a belated mothers day gift - she frets about leaving her cat alone.

Caro - Glad it finally was me who could help.

Interesting what you and your mother thought of it when it is installed.

I have never used the microphone function to talk to them...I just listen. I figure talking to them when I'm not in the house might freak them out.

Tried out the camera today for real. It is very similar to Hanne's one I think. (I've just checked and it was the Dropbox camera which had some issues in the UK - according to reviews). Something to do with the cloud not being available in Europe! :confused2:

Garry went out for a bike ride for a couple of hours while I was at work and I checked it and saw the camera online, switched to viewing and there were the boys stretched out sleeping on the floor in the sunlight. I saw Angus having a scratch and Epic stretching. OK so it was not riveting viewing but it was just what I wanted to see. Made me feel like I was not so far away and actually lifted my spirits considerably. I like seeing the shelties all nice and peaceful, especially as next door they are putting in a new kitchen so there is a lot of noise and bustle going on. Very happy with it so far.

I think I will try and get them used to the voice tool so that it could be something I could use as an interrupter if necessary. Hopefully I won't need to but would be good to have the option.

The only downside to all this is that it seems to use quite a lot of the data capacity on my phone. Probably this was in watching the live stream so might just change to checking in briefly from time to time, especially as it records a time line which tells you if any movement or sound has occurred. Just having the peace of mind that everything is OK at home is priceless though. Just wish I had got it sooner then I could have possibly stopped Angus chewing through the internet cable...or perhaps he had an ulterior motive!! :wink2:

I have the same d-link camera as Hanne. I love it. Gives me peace of mind when I leave my dog alone. I love that I can watch her on my phone.

Caro, after the initial set up, the camera doesn't get plugged into your computer or Ethernet. It just gets plugged into your electrical outlet.
