Poking

I am so happy to see this is common in this breed. It is really cute, but I just didn't understand what it meant. I think the common answer here is that the dog wants our attention! Poke away Sabrina....

Yup, pretty sure Envy does it for attention. She will poke my other girl, Karma, when she wants her to play with her. And is once in awhile she will poke me with one of her toys.

Addie is a comfirmed poker :) it is so gentle that sometimes all you feel is her whiskers. Now, with the cone on it is a little more pronounced, lol.

Sometimes I get a lick behind the knee in a walk by poke

don't ya just love the sensitive nature's of shelties...I grinned when I read this...they do try to be so gentle at times

Dair is a poker, but I think it is herding stuff with her. She only does it when I'm walking around the house. She follows in almost classic "heel" position, and pokes the back of my left leg at each step. Which would be ok, except that her sensitivity to noises is getting worse, and she really gets excited, barking like a crazy girl, and runs around behind me and- way beyond poking- nips at my leg. Also seems like herding, and so far, she, hasn't broken the skin, but it's being hard on my clothes, and I really think she will bite me someday. Any reaction at all on my part makes it worse, and it's too painful to ignore. In between noises, she's a very sweet dog, but I don't think this should be allowed to escalate. Any suggestions?

When Spirit does the herding/nipping thing with me she gets put into the bathroom for a few minutes for time out. Nothing else I tried seemed to work.
