Pork in Origen?

Have you thought about using Acana instead. It's their "cheaper" product. I'm not 100% sure what the difference is.

The 3 non-grain foods they sell are all about 33% protein and as far as I could see, none of them contain pork.

Oh, just found this on their website:

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ACANA & ORIJEN

While there are many differences between ACANA and ORIJEN, both diets reflect our belief in “Biologically Appropriateness, and “Fresh Regional Ingredients”.

Five of the main points of difference are summarized below:

1. MEAT CONCENTRATION: ORIJEN is made with 70-75% meat ingredients while ACANA has between 40 to 65%, depending on the formula.

2. AMOUNT OF PROTEIN: ORIJEN diets range between 38% and 42% protein, while ACANA features protein levels of 29-34%.

3. AMOUNT OF CARBOHYDRATE: ORIJEN diets range from 18-22% of carbohydrate, while ACANA diets are typically in the 28-30% carbohydrate range.

4. AMOUNT OF FRESH MEAT: ORIJEN is made with 28-33% of fresh meats, compared with ACANA which ranges from 9-15% of fresh meats.

5. VARIETY OF FRESH MEAT: ORIJEN contains a minimum of 5 fresh meats, compared to ACANA which contains 3 different fresh meat ingredients.

Put simply, we believe ORIJEN is the best dry dog or cat food available worldwide. Although lower in protein and total fresh meat content than ORIJEN, ACANA provides unbeatable value and a price point that makes Biologically Appropriate pet foods accessible to a wide range of pet lovers. .

Acana...

I currently have my girl on the Acana Pacifica, grain free and have tried grasslands. She has difficulty chewing the very flat, hard and round kibbles. She eats one individually and has trouble breaking one kibble at a time. She has tried both flavors and is not crazy over either. I am not really interested in the other flavor that is chicken. I love everything about Acana execept that my girl has a hard time eating it and dosnt go nuts over it. They both have lots of fish in it and im pretty sure thats what turns her off. Origen hasnt e-mailed me back, but can anyone tell me if origen and acana kibble is similar... i just assumed they would be different but im thinking maybe not?...

Did you see my post before yours? Its straight from their website. Tells you the difference btwn Orijen and Acana. Or did you mean the size/shape of the kibble?

Maybe it's time to look into a different brand. Especially with her pork allergies.
(Yikes, I just saw your other thread. Obviously you've been trying a lot of different things. Good luck! I know it took me awhile to find something my dogs loved)

Orijen's kibble size/texture is very similar to Acana. I picked up a couple of samples to use as training treats, but had difficulty breaking them up into tiny enough pieces with my fingers. (ended up chopping them into quarters with a sharp knife!)

Can you try adding some water to her food? Let the water soak for a minute. This will soften the kibble and make it easier for her to chew.

I am refering to kibble size sorry. I have done lots of re search on both foods and yes I read what you had posted and it is accurate:smile2: But like someone had said origen is similar and they had to use a knife to break it smaller. It is really big and hard, imagine having to chew that haha. Thats why I want to switch but if origen is that hard as well then there is no point in even trying the food to see how it goes with her. Ugh. I hate dog food shopping. It's impossible to find perfect food.

By the way she likes wellness core, I like it because it has better ingreidents then her fav TOTW, BUT it is more money than origen and acana here. :confused2: and in my opinon isnt as good of quality

Wellness core sells for 77$ a bag:dead:
While acana and origen are around $68...

I just don't know what to do.

Or, when you do find it, eventually something happens, they change the formula, etc, etc, etc.

Natures Variety, TOTW, and EVO was working great for me, but something happened with all of them that made me want to discontinue using it. I just started on Orijen (as my "new" food). So, I totally understand. Miko has a sensitive stomach, so certain things upset his stomach. Sigh. Good luck.

Holy god that's pricey. the 30lb of Orijen is around $55.00 here, and the acana is usually around 5-10 less than that. Wellness core is around the same price as acana and I don't think as good a quality as acana. Have you tried Merriks Before Grain? It should be in PetCo pretty soon, ours just got their first supply of it, as well as the smaller stores.
