positive puppy playdate

Hey everyone!
Luna and I went to the dogpark today with our friends and their dog, a yorkie mix. She was a totally different dog, she was approaching people, approaching other dogs, confident, barking, running, playing (not so much with other dogs but more than usual) basically being social!

Has anyone else noticed a difference with their dog when with other dog friends as opposed to just you and your dog? I don't know if its a positive change (possibly brought on by the doggy daycare session last week where she did pretty okay, not great, but she was herding the other dogs apparently so better than shaking in a corner) or just knowing she had a familiar dog there that she knew very well?

Also this morning she was playing with our neighbores dog outside and she was chasing Molly and Molly was chasing her, the first time she has done that with molly without getting nervous, or stopping suddenly. Both of these dogs she has known for a while so maybe she feels more confident around them (especially now that shes bigger then both of them) who knows but it was incredibly fun to watch her have fun.

also, while we were there the lady with 6 shelties from the southern ontario sheltie rescue who we've met a couple times was there with all her foster/rescue dogs who are GORGEOUS and she said she even noticed a difference in Luna and how she was acting and approaching her and her dogs. and everytime i see her i want to adopt/rescue/foster more shelties... I couldn't be more pleased with today's outtings. :biggrin2: hopefully that means that doggy daycare this week will be much more fun for her too!

She's growing up and you're helping her get socialized. Sounds like a great step in the right direction. Keep up the good work!

It's amazing how different our Shelties can be in different circumstances. Beckon is my most changeable; sometimes shy, sometimes confident.

Lexi feels much more confident when Bentley is around. She still doesn't usually engage other dogs, but she will play from a safe distance if Bentley is playing.

Dixie is more confident with Cran nearby. I'm glad that she's been taking class by herself- she's been getting more confidence- at least at the agility field.
She did have some issues at the pet store when it was just her and not all three brown dogs.

It sounds like you're heading in the right direction!!.... I think that as he gains more confidence with the dogs that she does know it will carry over into her interactions with dogs she doesn't know. The more positive experiences she has with other dogs can only serve to reinforce her sociability.

Have fun!!!

Todays dog park experience was full of adolecent stubborness ... but she was trying to play with other puppies so yay!!!

There was an 11wk mastiff so incredibly cute!!!!!
