Lucky's Momma

Forums Novice
Lucky is going through her first heat cycle. My husband is a firm believer in let them go through one heat before you get them fixed. Since we did this with our Aussie I was fully prepped for at least two weeks of crazy but Lucky is really pushing me. She is peeing on everything!!!! At first we thought it might be a UTI but there is no blood in the urine, she won't go in her crate and she won't go when we take her outside. She shows no signs of pain when she does go and she isn't acting sick, she keeps tormenting her brother and sister as usual. She has peed on the bed twice and the couch every chance she gets. She is banished from even getting on the couch at this point. I have tried vinegar and water after washing everything but she just finds another spot. This is a problem that has started in the last few days and I don't know if I can handle this for two weeks or more. Today I was working on the computer and had my back turned for a minute when she jumped on the couch. I turned to tell her to get down and she was already peeing.

Please help!!!! She is our baby and I am at my wits end. :fl

Still sounds like a UTI to me. Have you taken a sample to the vet? Best to rule it out, just in case. The only reason I knew my girl had a UTI was she jumped up on the bed and peed right next to me. Even though she was just a puppy, I knew something was wrong. There was no visible blood in her urine, and she was able to hold it in her crate.

Thank You. She was put on broad spectrum antibiotics for now. The vet did say that it wasn't unusual for a first time heat to have bladder issues but it is better to be safe. I hope this works because my house can't handle much more.

UTI, or possibly pyometra. Natalie had pyometra and her only real symptom was peeing on every thing. She developed this though after the heat cycle.

I would also confine her to a room or two until she is over this.

The antibiotics are making a big difference already. No accidents last night and she is acting a lot better today. I can't thank you enough. Lucky is back to her tormenting self much to the chagrin of her little big brother. We have 3 more days of antibiotics and I am sure she will be way better by the end. One last question. Lucky has done this since we got her and I figure it is just a quirk of hers but wanted to check. She won't stop walking when she is going potty. Whether she is urinating or pooing. Is this just a Lucky thing or are there other dogs that do it too?

I think that's normal. My boy walks when he poops, and I've heard other people say their dogs do the same.

Glad to hear Lucky is doing better already!

Ah yes. Crass though it may be, this is referred to as the "Walking Dump" at our house. Our last sheltie, Pavi, was pretty good at it, but Olive, she is the Jedi master of poop walking. Ten feet, fifteen, twenty. She looks bored the whole time, too, sniffing the wind and watching the birds. Makes for an adventure when cleaning up on walks.:gaah

Beau doesn't poop walk, but, he will do a helicopter move until he can find just the right spot.

But, I'm glad Lucky is doing better

Dixie pee walks and poo walks. Jocu poo walks but pees in one place. Cran goes in one place.
When I got Callie from sheltie rescue, they explained that it was a sheltie thing.....
