Possible UTI

Danielle, my guess is that Chloe's immune system is still trying to recover from her Lyme disease, and her urinary system has always been a bit weak, it seems. I wish you and her the best of luck in her recovery. Having had a sheltie with a UTI - I know it's no fun at all!

Thanks...and I did spay her young (at 6 months). Ho hum.

Anyway, I am hoping you are right, in that her system is just off from the Lyme Disease and that she may get better eventually. Crossing our fingers and toes

Terrific news that the med is helping Chloe! I'm so happy to hear it. I'll bet you'll be able to wean her off of it as time goes by. Lyme disease does all sorts of different things to our animals...one thing I've found is that no two have the same symptoms. One of our dogs always got chilled easily after Lyme -- she would shiver, and had to wear coats from fall to spring. She was also prone to UTIs. You just never know.

Give Chloe a pat for us!

Thanks Ann....have I mentioned how much I hate ticks?

Some of the comments on this thread make me wonder if female Shelties often have urinary issues. It seems like pretty much all of us who have girls have had some kind of UTI, especially if the Sheltie was spayed early.

Note: The reason my mind goes straight to spaying is because our breeder very strongly advised us to wait an "unusually" long time on spaying Buffy. She said girl Shelties often have urinary issues if they are spayed too early.

Interesting the correlation of shelties and urinary problems. Hadley had an awful UTI when we first got her, but her living conditions certainly weren't anything to brag about nor was her diet. Now her most recent urinary problems are directly related to the spay. I still don't regret getting her spayed, of course, but that sucks.

I'm so happy to hear that your girl is doing better and the medicine is working. I will keep my fingers crossed that she will be able to come off the medicine, or at least decrease it.

One week off the Proin, and I am happy to report, no accidents!!!!

Chloe is almost drug free

The only extras she is getting right now is Cosequin, Vibrant Pets Show Dog, and Cran-tri-c.

I plan on weaning her off the Cran-tri-C starting next week.

Chloe is going to start back to agility training on Monday, but is only going to work on weaves. We have been doing a BRISK 3 mile walk everyday and she has no limping and with her exercises and stretching she has almost all of her muscle tone back in her front right leg.

I am probably going to take her to the Chiro for an adjustment in a couple of weeks, see what that vet thinks, and maybe she can start back to regular agility next month.

Whoo Hooo....my baby is feeling GOOD.

Now if I can just keep the darn ticks off her this season and we can have a Lyme free year.

So happy to hear Chloe is doing better and isn't it great she has her muscle tone back also. Looks like you are off to agility Chloe. Have fun.:biggrin2:

Great news, Danielle!! I am so happy for you and Chloe. It sounds like she's doing wonderfully well. Enjoy your return to agility! :biggrin2: Here's to NO TICKS for all of us! :dead:
