Post-covid separation anxiety

Today was the first official day my wife went back to her classroom. Teddy and I were home all day as usual with no problems. When my wife got home this afternoon he barked at her like she was a service person coming to our house (He really barks at any service person that comes to the house) I did a recall and made him sit by my chair but it took him about 15/20 mins to really chill out. Any idea's would be appreciated.I don't use a crate any more but he has his own room that has a baby gate if I need to do that

I'm guessing before today Teddy was fine with your wife when she was home during the day? For the next few days, I'd have her get down on his level, the floor if necessary, with a really tasty treat for him when she comes in the door. Maybe leave some she can grab by the door for when she arrives. She should just sit quietly and hold the treat out in her palm until he comes over. She can talk quietly to him too, he'll recognize her voice. It will take a few days but he'll figure it out pretty quickly. Keep us posted!

I agree with this. We had to do this with my husband going out for a long time and coming in, after us being cooped up all together. He entered quietly and stood at the door and quietly said hi to the boys and gave them a treat. Took a few times but they got it. One of the boys, Bryan, still loses his mind but if you really observe his body language, it's excitement, not aggression. He's a bit of a wingnut anyway and is madly in love with his papa so his excitement isn't too unusual.

Lol I can understand wingnut as that’s my Finnie!
I agree this is the best way to approach this. Even Blueberry typically won’t come to me directly when I call her (when I first come home) and I have to sit on the floor and quietly call her to me. Then I’m her best friend lol!

I agree that it's pure excitement even service technicians, it is excitement because the tail is wagging a mile a minute along with the barking. Plus with my wife, she is his night time walking partner so I figure he misses her and is confused I can honestly say I have never heard Teddy growl at anybody. Thanks for the tips we will try them tomorrow :) BTW wingnuts can be fun !;
