Potty training STILL...

Buffy hasn't had an accident in our condo since she was 6 months or so. But I found out recently that she has had a few accidents in my parents' basement. (They have a much larger house.) Evidently she was sneaking down there to poop. I am going to take Ashley's suggestion and do some training with her down there. Maybe that will cure her of the habit. My parents don't like to confine Buffy at all so I think some stuff does happen when no one is watching her. I'm not sure what else we can do to prevent this, as it does happen when we are at work and not there.

it ain't easy, that's for sure

visiting other places is tougher. poor gavin will stand at the door he came in at, but if no one notices or he can't find anyone....well, he finds concrete if he can (balcony or basement) or linoleum. But i can't get mad at him, cause it's actually my fault. None of my puppy sitters have said there's been a problem when they have him at their places, so I think he tries to find someone when he has to go (and whines). but they have to understand what he wants.

having a dog is a lot more work than it looks like to other people. but it is totally worth it :wink2:

I think the fact that she does NOT do it in our presense, goes to a predominantly unoccupied part of our house says says it's behavioral. Therefore we need to spend more time up there and be sure to keep the stairs gated when we're not :wink2:

If she was previously housetrained and these recent problems are unusual then I would say its adolescence - it is pretty common at that age. On the plus side if its adolescence its easily fixed.

How long is she going between toilets? Tully came fully housetrained but could not hold on for very long. She was more than 2yrs old before she could ever hold on over night, and I could not leave her for extended periods without access to the yard or an inside puppy loo (even now she still needs access to a toilet overnight). If she didnt have access she would go somewhere out of the way - I think she knew she shouldnt pee inside, but what else could she do.

Keep in mind that Megan may still have not developed complete bladder control.

We live in a 3300 sqft house therefore she does have more places to have accidents :rolleyes2:. Perhaps I should start "mapping" a route for her to get down stairs from wherever she is upstairs :smile2: !?

Megan and Tully sound a lot a like as far as not being able to hold it for a long time. She will hold out beautifully all night or in her playpen, crate, etc, but when she's loose, she won't as much..

Caro you're probably right about Megan not having a fully matured bladder yet, she is still a baby afterall .
