Pouncing

Yep, Toffee is often totally cat like!
My cats actually get along better with Toffee than each other!!

Mikesch the cat (wait for the pics... lol) and him play like CATS... Toffee and he play hide and seek and stalk each other around the couch all the time... I must say that Toffee kinda sucks at it, but still... lol
Mikesch also sometimes indulges and CHASES him around the couch... which is the funniest sight I have ever seen... Toffee also doesn't bite during play with the cat, probably to protect his pretty face mind you, but he uses his paws to bonk the kitty on the head, if said kitty lets him

Lilo stealing Toffee's supper, and he's asking that I assist him! (imagine a Sheltie giving up food, lol)

Sadie likes to play with her toys like a cat. She enjoys batting things around with her paws and throwing things up in the air. As a pup her favorite toy was a cat toy someone gave her. It was one of those little plastic mesh balls with the bell in the middle. She played with it every day until her mouth got stronger and she crushed it with her teeth.

She likes to pounce on feet under covers and hide under blankets like my cats, and she also love weaving in and out of my legs like a cat.

Another Cat-like Sheltie

Ginger loves little balls that she bat around like a cat. In fact yesterday when I was at PetSmart, I bought her a little cat ball to play with.

She also loves to look at, bat at insects, spiders, etc. she finds on the ground. I'd like to find a little toy, that when touched will jump up and move, like a grasshopper would. Ginger would just love it.

Her favorite spot, is perched on the top of an easy chair, basking in the sun and looking out the window.

I was amazed that she was so cat-like. I agree there must be a cat gene in their someplace.

Same thing here!

Trapp has found two cat toys that are Bumpers, that he really likes. One is a red ball with a jingle in it.The other is shaped like a wheel, also jingles. He will play & play with those two things.

Yesterday I caught him investigating Bumpers condo..:biggrin2:~ So I'm not really sure where that would have gone if I not had walked on the porch to check on him. And of course Bumper was on the top level,so that may have been the reason. Earnhardt was just looking at him as if to say...hey you...thats not cool!:eek2:

My little girl Angel likes to pounce on my feet everynight when I get in bed and under the covers. She lays in wait and then starts to flick her tail like a cat. Then as my feet slide in under the covers she arches her back, up in the air she goes and pounces down on them. Then it becomes a game to her to play bit my toes until the light goes out. Does anyone else have a sheltie that has cat like behavior?

Yes, it is a typical behavior. Shelties were also bred to chase out the Varmins around the farms. This means Varmins like skunks, weazels, rabbits that steel veggies in the farm, racoons that steal food in the farm, and even Rats. Shelties will Sniff them out and chase them out of the farm. But i have never seen them hunt them down and eat them though..... Although Mine likes to chase down the Rabbit and she seems like she wants to eat them,,,,but never suceeds. LOL:lol:

.

I used to have a little plastic cat ball that was kind of webbed with a little bell in it. Bacca loved that toy! I've lost it and haven't yet found another. Still looking!

Maia is like a cat too! In fact, right now she is playing with a big ball that her breeder sent her for her birthday that has a cat bell in the middle. She just loves it. She also pounces on Chinook just like a big cat - first she get down really low and just sits and watches her pray, then as he gets closer she gathers herself, her back end stands up a bit, head down low, and then pounce!
Chinook on the otherhand, all dog.

LOL Ember does exactly the same thing. She also plays with the little cat balls with the bells in them. My other 2 are not as cat like but they all play with my 14 yr cat like he was another sheltie. It is quite a scene to see a cat chasing 3 shelties though the house.
