Protective/Barking

Our 2 shelties, ages 7 & 8, are very protective of their space. They have a large fenced in yard in which to play. However, if neighbors are out or someone walks by the yard they non stop bark. I also have neighbors who do not follow the leash law and their dogs also cause them to bark. I end up taking Nauset and Michaelie in. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

First of all I want to say hi from another Cape Cod resident! Love the name Nauset. I would suggest that you take the dogs somewhere else to play and not leave them in the yard for too long to get their excersize because the barking will continue. Shelties are barkers! I am sure there is other advice here and other ideas from people that will help you.
