Protective older Sheltie

Justice almost 12, hates, ok hate is a strong word, seriously dislikes Birch. I am just grateful they tolerate each other. They have a truce you don't touch me , I won't touch you.

Ember, 9, has finally stopped looking at Birch like he should go back where he came from I have even seen her "gasp" playing with him. Birch is 2.5yrs.

Birch loves everyone so it is not him. He gleefully plays with puppies and young dogs. He doesn't stomp or smash. He would play with Justice and Ember if they let him. Diva was his buddy at home. I hope Celtic can fill some of that void for him. He does have playdates regularly with his sisters so he does get his dog fix.

I dont expect love between my dogs just tolerate other each. I am really their favorite play buddy anyway s

I feel the same way. I've always had female dogs who were about 6 years a part, so there wasn't much playing between them. A little chasing and tugging, depending on the dog, but nothing crazy. The most important thing was that they tolerated each other. Although, it's adorable when dogs are great buddies, I understand that it's not always the case. I'm happy as long as they don't hate each other.

At first my boys weren't sure about their new baby sister. Now they LOVE her. They no longer steal toys or bones, and they tolerate her very active playing. If she ever makes a "non playing" noise they ruuuuuuun to check on her

Pooooor Birch, Spitfire and Sca says he should come to Alabama to play. Spitfire even claims he also can leap on Sca :rolleyes2:

My guys get along perfect though a lot of that is Sca. He is so laid back and loves everyone. So when Spitfire is getting him he just tolerates it or joins in. Spitfire might not be as nice if there was a third pup. When we had company Spitfire was a little cranky at times if the other Shelties cornered him. Also while he wants to visit other Shelties when we are out he has zero interest in puppies, seems to dislike them.

Indy was starting to make moves for a couple days like he would play but has stopped again.

Interesting though he IS starting to approach Callan on his own rather than Callan attack him. Progress, I guess! Caught them nose touching the other day.....though I suspect Indy was just to lick Callan's mouth to see if Callan left any food between his teeth! :rolleyes2:
