Pumpkin Pups First Nadac Adventure

Congrates, sounds Like a busy weekend for sure. The first time out is always the hardest as you are nervous and the dogs sence this too. You will be surprised the next time out you will be a lot better, the dogs probably not and buy the 3rd time you will be settled right in & so will the dogs. There are a huge amount of new distractions for them too as you found out when Dixie went over to check out the ring Crew , hey those people are not there when we practice LOL as well as just the louder Hubbub of the trail arena for them to adjust too. Cosmo doesn't go visit but if he's doing the walk or the frame & there are ring crew around it you can see him strutting his stuff as if to say hey look at me or slows down & looks right at them before doing the next obstical, it actually too funny usually the ring crew is just chucking or covering thier mouths trying not to laugh, after about 6 trials he doesn't even give them a second glance now. and I agree Ribbon are Ribbons you and the dogs worked hard to get where you are so you both earned them go get them, even if they are not the big fancy Qualifying ones.

So has Dixie gotten real big then :confused2: Why are her and Cran jumping the same size? Cran is similar to height as Sca (18.5 this weekend) and I thought Dixie was a LOT smaller than them. I have a hard time following agility at times... to many terms for my limited brain

In AKC and NADAC, the 16" division is for dogs 14-18", so unless she is under 14", she and Cran are the same jump height.

Ahh makes sense and I think Cran is a hair shorter than Sca with his 18.5 being a bit generous at Flyball (he will never be the height dog though so it didn't matter much). So Cran is likely just a bit under 18 and I would guess the Dixie is 15ish...

We always play at 16" when I have stuff out for Sca :biggrin2:

I gotta say, although you had some goofs here and there, sounds like a great weekend and a great start!! I think a lot of dogs will go visit unless you've done a lot of show-n-go's or training with people in the ring. I know Koji, who never would visit, visited everyone my first time out. lol. In one video, you see me begging Koji to come back. LOL. Another one, he finishes his run and goes to the timer. I love it, cuz the timer says, "oh, you wanna know your time, it's XX". LOL. So funny.

I also have to say I give you credit for running two baby dogs and running them in the same height division too! That's talent. Not sure I could do it. ;)

I never thought of the black contacts being an issue as I started in NADAC, but now that y'all mention it, I wonder if that's why Koji too would either run past, ignore, or run around them. In class ours was the regular blue/yellow. I just assumed it was the rubber contacts that put him off.

Oh, I love love love tunnelers. As a beginner, they're not easy cuz you wonder how you're going to get to point A before the dog. As you learn more handling and get better yourself, it gets slightly easier. It's the one game I saw Koji run full out. Granted, I couldn't keep up, so he'd bark at me, but well, you could tell he was having fun (when I'd get my act together).

Can't wait to see video. And yes, I say TAKE THE RIBBONS!!! I took placement ribbons for the first year. I still take Q ribbons.

all right- I'll try and get a pic of the pups with their ribbons:smile2:

well, I do have to say that Dixie only went to one of our club agility practices which is more trial-like than class and that was last Wednesday night. She just finished her first agility class this Monday night. so I guess we did do pretty good.

I am glad that I only had the one class where I was running both dogs. The walk-thru for Jumpers on Sunday was funny. I knew that Dixie would be first so I was walking thinking Dixie can do that and then that and then a couple laps into it- it occurred to me that I also needed to think about Cran and how to do the course for him. no wonder he was so confused- when his handler forgot all about him
