Our (new) Sheltie is 14 months old , We adopted her about 4 weeks ago , Tayla. She does pretty well on walks but wants to put most everything in her mouth. Is this typical puppy behavior or ? I watch the best I can and pull stuff out of her mouth , may grow out of it ? Silly girl. We walk with a harness . Thanks,Dave & Tayla

My almost 2 year old has done this since we brought her home at 8 weeks. Just very oral. Juno loves to carry sticks or pieces of bark around. She also loves munching on grass. At this point I"m not sure she's going to give it up. Just be cautious as you have been, so she doesn't get into poop of various kinds for instance, or rotten/discarded food.

my almost 2 year old does the same thing as Sharon7's. I'd say he's a vegetarian but he likes everything. he goes for bugs too:winkgrin: he's chewed bark off a tree, all sticks are fair game and has sampled all the green things in the yard. once I made sure that he wasn't eating anything toxic, I let him enjoy his salads. I supposed if I corrected him then he might stop but there are other fish to fry.........................

Teddy who is almost 7.5 years old, still wants to sample things he find on his walks. One of the reasons teaching the leave it / drop it command while they are young is so important.
Enjoy your little one, they can bring a lot of happiness and laughter into your home 🏠.

Pico LOVES picking up bark on his hikes.
He is really good about dropping when I ask.
Actually, all I have to do is say "do you think you are supposed to have that?' and he drops it.
It sounds more civilized then a stiff command, and it works really well :)
