Puppy expectations

All of my puppies have been carsick early on but outgrew it. Not Misty. I have to give her Bonine to go around the block. For longer trips she needs a large dose of Cerenia. She rides in a crate in the back. The one time I tried her in the front seat to see if she’d be better took me a month to clean up from. :Vomit:

Of the 6 dogs we had, only one would voluntarily want to go in the car. And I think that is because his separation anxiety was greater than his not liking the car.
If Benny sees me getting the van ready for dogs, (not sure how he knows but he does), he will try to get away. When I go to leash him up, he will try to hide.
Fil outgrew his car sickness, but he isn't a fan either. He likes it when we get to a new place though. Benny doesn't want to get out of the van when we get there! I got two homebody boys!

I can certainly understand Ann! Blueberry rides in the back now (tethered) because it doesn’t seem to make a difference where she sits. In the front she vomits (once she got my coffee cup which was in the center console!). I’ll try to line the seat with paper towels and she’ll totally miss them and get the floor! But the worst is her being in a crate because then she ends up laying in it. I can drive 2 hours on the highway and she won’t vomit but 2 minutes after getting on a city road and she upchucks!
What’s worse is bonine isn’t available in Canada so besides Gravol and Cerenia only other option is making sure she has an empty stomach before we go anywhere. Almost 3…I thought it would be over a long time ago. Poor girl, I wouldn’t want to go for car rides either if I got sick all the time.

Piper gets the front seat and he jumps in and gets comfy (he’s tethered in on a harness). He doesn’t even look out the windows lol…just likes being with me I think.
Finnie loves them too but if I stop at a drive through he’ll start barking as soon as I try to place my order…drives me CRAZY! And if I just pull into a parking lot he anticipates that I’ll be getting out and start barking.

I live on a hill with a really windy road down. When Brodie was young, he'd barf by the time we got to the bottom. It just became habit to stop at the bottom to clean up.

Deacon was a drooler, anxiety I supposed, he's a tad high strung. We'd get to class and he'd be soaked! He stopped the drooling after a 3 hour trip to NJ. He now just gets in now, lays down and sleeps.

Both are tethered. Brodie is a fan of Dunkin Donuts... he recognizes their logo.... :) He loves plain glazed munchkins, is not a fan of their old fashioned though. He is only allowed 1.

That's not the way it is at my house. Anytime I head for the door Teddy is ready to go. I use a harness and seatbelt connection
It maybe most places we go, want to give him a treat regardless if it's the bank or the drivethru and he knows he gets the 'good stuff" if I go to the coffee shop. :)

I have come to really like the seat belt harness thing. It is secure and they can move around a bit..so much better than crates for the dogs, maybe a bit less secure since they can move around but more pleasant.

Davy is a serious drooler and has been carsick several times as well.
we got some Cerenia for our summer roadtrip and he did great- totally dry and no vomit. we've been using meclizine (Bonine) for shorter trips and that works for him.
everyone rides in a crate and I've had to hose Davy's out several times so it's not as securely strapped as the others but it's pretty secure with still being easily removable.
