Puppy Mills list

Barb, this may be a bit of an editorial suggestion -- I think it is important to stress the responsibility of buyers in limiting the success and proliferation of irresponsible breeders. If there isn't a market for their product, they will fade away. Educated and responsible puppy buyers are a very important weapon in discouraging inhumane breeding practices.

Got it! Thanks for the input!

Katniss,

That was very nicely said! And I think an excellent way to end this part of the discussion, with Kelly's permission.

What I would like to do is open a new thread, so you all can post your ideas as to what should go in the Puppy Buying Tips.

On the weekend, I'm going to start extracting it all and put it in some kind of order.

Then I'll draft up a Table of Contents and post it for comment and feedback.

Then the real fun (writing) begins. (I can't believe I volunteered for this...I've just spent the last month writing Policy at work...like I need more writing right now! Oh well, in for a penny....!)

Comments anyone?

Ohhhh .... One more thing, sorry, One more thing that I want to Stress, something that others have already brought up, but it is really important:

The best way to fight the Puppy Mills and so called BYB is to educate buyers. If we help to make people more educated buyers, if we make sure that responsible owners find good breeders then in essence, we will put the Puppy Mills and BYB out of Business, one dog at a time.

It's really brilliant if you think about it ... use honey instead of vinegar. You promote the positive, promote education, intelligence, responsibility, you’ve won half the battle. We don't need to touch PM's, the overall affect will be damaging to the Mills in the end.

We have seen so many good owners, like Jessica, that have fallen victim to the PM or BYB all in the interest of being a responsible owner. If we help eliminate that "victim" then the criminal will have no one to victimize ... including the dogs. The Buyers educational Guide is a great start ... one we are all being asked to contribute too.

Ok ... I am done, I promise. :wink2:

Hi Katniss,

Not to diminish your point, but that's exactly why we are talking about writing the Puppy Buyer's Guide!

We come full circle!

Thank you Katniss for your level-headed response. I guess like everyone, I do have my personal weaknesses and this hurt.

The whole point of both Sheltie Nation & the forums was to promote the breed, educate & have fun. Sometimes the devil is in the details.

I try to be guided by the forum motto & stay true to why I created all this: Share, learn, mentor.

Per Barb's suggestion, I'll close the thread now & we can continue the project in a new one. I hope you all will be OK with that.

I'm gonna go take a deep breath now & go hug Trevor.
