Fingers & paws crossed for you guys here!
With Trace it was too easy -Step 1) decided I want a 2nd dog. Step 2) decided to go for a Sheltie since I always thought they were beautiful. Step 3) start looking for a merle because I liked the look. Step 4) discover a breeder online in the next state had 2 bi-blue boys available (had never seen that color - absolutely loved it). Step 5) decide which one I wanted based on pics & mail a deposit. Step 6) bring Trace home at 9 weeks
Never imagined I would be saying goodbye to that special little boy 4 1/2 years later. Also never imagined the roller coaster it would be when deciding to take a friend's advice & work with trusted breeders for the next Sheltie - not just going off nice websites. Two planned litters from a sire I loved - neither one "took".
Note: in my sadness after hearing the first 2 litters weren't going to happen, I spent most of that weekend on the computer looking for Sheltie puppies - almost sent a deposit for one I found on "PuppyFind". In no way do I mean that puppies found that way are all from mills, but it shocked me when a trainer friend posted an article about the horrid conditions of puppy mills across the USA (I believe it was the HSUS annual report on the subject), and PuppyFind was mentioned many times as the means by which these people sold their puppies. There were state by state reports, with some photos & kennel names. I went to some of the violator's kennel websites - they looked lovely, then compared them to the puppy mill report photos - amazing - and disturbing! It just proved to me that (duh) you can't always believe what you see on the internet
In the end it all worked for the best, and I think a higher power has helped me in my journey to find a new little soul. I pray the same for everyone awaiting their next best furry friend!
Sorry for the length of this...once you get me going...
I have worked at animal shelters and ignorant breedings & puppy mills sicken me. I realize now how difficult it can be to wait patiently for a well thought-out litter from a good breeder...
