Also, he isn't at his full adult weight yet as he needs to grow muscle mass. Give it another 2-6mths to see what his final weight is.

Btw, my dogs have always grown (albeit slowly) until they were a year old. For some reason we hit summer and they got a little bigger. I've wondered if that's because the increased muscle mass just makes them stand taller (or they lay more muscle over the shoulder where I measure them).

Not many puppies - weight is for adults because, like I said the pups still keep putting on weight.

We have not been to the vet since his last shots and chip implant. Covid is running rampant in our county right now and I don't want to risk it. His checkup was great at that time. His mom was on the small side but not toy or anything. The breeder thought he would end up around 22 lbs because he was the biggest of his litter. Right now he is 15 inches and 16.2 lbs. As I mentioned, he seems totally healthy just not growing anymore and I was wondering about it. (He has been this height since he was 5 months.) I am still trying to figure out how to add a picture.

Fifteen inches is right in the proper size range for a Sheltie. My current Sheltie, Devon, grew all at once and then slowed way down at about 5 months (he stopped eating as much right about the same time), whereas my previous Sheltie, Baron (avatar photo), grew slower but for a longer time (he was still growing some at over a year old). Funny thing is though that they both ended up being within 1/4 inch of each other in height, Baron at 18 3/4 and Devon at 18 1/2. Both ended up oversized, but after having Baron at that size and gotten used to it, I deliberately looked for a puppy that would end up large, and I hit the mark (by luck) almost exactly.

However, as he matureD and chest deepened his shoulder layback improved (the point where they are measured) and he dropped Down a little in measurement which isn’t unusual. He also didn’t lose his first tooth until six months which is Unusual.

Boys sometimes grow slower than girls depending on the line. My boy prior grew fast at first then steadily until a year. My current girl is expected to be done by 8 months. In the week and a half I have known her it is noticeable and she got leggy already in the short time. She is only 9 weeks!

I hope that happens with Kismet. She's too small to show atm, need another half inch at least (she's going on 7mths). Hoping that, like the flowers, she'll grow a little in Spring!

My guy got placed when he measured on charts to be
13 1/2 To 14 at 12 weeks. He is 14 3/4. Small boned though, not enough muzzle so still would have gotten placed eventually.

Thanks. Funny you should say about not enough muzzle, I've been worried about that for Kismet, but I noticed her muzzle is starting to change shape, so may be hope yet. Although the British lines do tend to have that foxy look, hers was making her look a bit bug eyed.

It's hard without the shows atm due to Covid. I'm going to have to chase up Tully's old breeder (who's in her 90s) because there's no one knowledgeable nearby to give me some hands on feedback about Kismet's prospects.
