Question for agility handlers

I agree---any dog can do agility. People who breed their dogs for agility purposes look for drive. I think every sheltie has a certain amount of drive because of their willingness to please.

Some, however, have more than others and these are the dogs that excel. To some degree we taught Bentley his drive as he's pretty laid back. So he's a little slow, but his desire to please compensates for natural drive and excitedness.

I totally agree. Justice sounds just like Bently. But he is not the fastest but dead on accurrate with his work whether it is agility or obedience because he wants to make me happy.

You will have so much fun with Agility! Bailey would be great.

My daughter goes to agility classes with Chloe....since Chloe was about 6 months old. She doesn't do the jumps and weaves, but they do all the basics, and Chloe is especially fond of flying through the tunnels. It is such an upbeat, positive, and fun thing to do with your dog! Enjoy :biggrin2:

Same here. Edan is far from the fastest dog on the course but he is accurate. Even though we've scored a number of 1st Place finishes, it was because the faster dogs in our level and height class were missing the accuracy.

I think I'd rather have a slightly slower dog and clean runs, even if I end up not Q'ing because I'm overtime at higher levels. Its more fun for me and Edan when the run is clean whether we Q or not.

To be honest, Edan is getting faster as he gains more and more confidence on the course. Our sends are a little shaky still but he's getting faster.
