What leash lengths should I buy? 6ft? 20ft for training?
I like 4 to 6 feet. I've used retractables but no longer need them because I can (mostly) trust the boys' recall.
What is the best collar to get? (rolled leather martingale? where can i buy this? links?)Definitely prefer round collars, and the narrower the better, and martingale as well. The martingale fits loose when not attached, so does not matt the fur. Once attached, your narrow-headed Sheltie is less like to slip the collar.
I've got Leashes by Design as well, but as was said earlier they aren't adjustable so you have to wait until pup is full grown. But believe me, its worth the wait! In the meantime, just a narrow nylon is fine. (keep it less than 1/2" if you can)

What crate size should I buy? A small one for puppyhood and a large one for adulthood?
By one now that will last till adulthood. While pup is small, fill in the back with a wood box or similar. You want the pup to have enough room to stand and lie flat. Not much more than that, else he'll pee in one corner and sleep in the other.
I used medium sized soft-sided crates. Great for travelling and also light enough to move around the house into various rooms. When my pup was small he slept downstairs during the day, but at night, I moved him into my room.
What type of brushes? I know theres slicker and pin brushes, but which particular brushes are best? Links please?
I really like CC brushes as well. I have both 35mm and 20 mm. I use them both for different purposes. A good quality slicker is great as well. You want one that has some "give" to it, and not sharp ends.
I have both a furminator and a plain ol' rake. The furminator is my twice a year buddy....when the pants are so full I could stuff cushions. The rake works just fine the rest of the year.
Don't forget, never brush the dogs dry. Spritz with water or leave in conditioner.
