Rally run thru

I cannot find one of the signs that stumped me. It must be hiding in plain sight though. It was a call front, and instead of the dog doing a finish, the handler walks around the dog to return to heel position. It looked weird, felt weirder... although I do this alot when training.

It is a novice sign, I thought.

Another thing that messed me up, doing pivots when they were not necessary.

Wish I had a course map from the run thru, would like to go over the signs that stumped me.

That sign is not too bad :wink2: Riley gets an extra stay command before I move around him.

When we did a Novice Rally-O class, the most confusing ones were the halt, sit, and finish ones. Some of the signs you had to wait until the dog returned to heal then move, and the other was you begin to move immediately when the dog's nose reaches your left leg (wait longer than that and you will be faulted).

There also is a sign where you do an about face in the direction of the dog, while the dog changes direction by traveling around you in the opposite direction to end up in correct heal position (change of direction). That one was LOTS of fun to watch everyone trying to figure it out :pop

wish you had the map too- would like to see the signs that weren't visible in the video- sure looked like you were taking a while to read that one:winkgrin:

I use a first generation iPad, there are several aps in the store, four, and one has the new signs. I tried to buy it but have to update the operating system on my iPad, which I have to do from my desktop. I think. I'm pretty clueless when it comes to anything electronic.... Heck, not just electronics...

Ah! OK. That makes sense then; Apple built in obsolescence.

Regardless of technology, the run was still very good!

I'll be honest, I'm very nervous about my Advanced run on Friday.

I always get nervous, am always looking for ways to control it and turn it into adrenaline. :)

I walk the course at least 3 times. First time for flow, where does the course go, is it in the shape of a snake? Second time for signs, and third time with my imaginary dog. My perfect imaginary dog!

Still neervous though... esp. with my new boy. Expectations are low at this point and more about me being able to walk and read. He knows how to heel and sit and stuff. Just hope he can do it on the first cue...

You'll be fine! I can't wait to hear all about it, so please share and if you get the course map... :)

I found two of the three signs that tripped me up.

They are 'non regular' signs NR 1 (halt, slow forward from sit) and NR 2 and 3 (these were the halt, pivot left or right, and forward) I got really perplexed, but feel good that my dog and I did it.

I still can't find the call dog front - finish sign, that directs the handler to return around the dog to heel position. If you know this sign's number, please tell me, I think I've gone through the regs about a dozen times and can't find it.... might have to email the woman who laid the course. :D

Do you like the new signs? I thought some were a blast, loved the double left u turns in excellent. Bobby liked it too!

Think I might have to get a new set of signs and holders and make more time for rally. :)

sounds like #35

I don't like the new signs because I don't understand them and have yet to find decent explanations for them.

am hoping to get with someone who can explain/demonstrate them sometime soon........:ick

It's sign 35 - Call Front Return to Heel.

I was just practicing this sign tonight. There's two parts to this sign:
(1) Call the dog to front, which requires him/her to sit in front of the handler.
(2) The handler commands the dog to stay and walks around the dog (similar to the "Sit. Walk Around Dog" sign) back to the heel position. After a short pause, the team continues forward.

Honestly, I got very lucky when the new signs came out. One of our local Obedience clubs hosted a 4 hour seminar on the new signs. I signed up for one of the working spots so I got to actually do all the stations. There was also a Rally Judge, who is a member of that club, there to help with the details.

I, and I'm sure others on the forum, can help you understand some of the new signs. We can always video ourselves performing the station to help you out.

videos would be awesome- wish AKC had done videos of all the new signs.

#35 is one that AKC did video: http://www.akc.org/events/rally/MVI_35.html

so 18 new signs minus the 4 that AKC has posted (#35, #118, #210, #298)- that's only 14 that y'all can help me out with videos so I can explain to rest of my club.

Very jealous that you were able to attend something like that:winkgrin:

Well, there it is! I was looking at the old signs, #35 was halt, turn right one step and call to heel. Wish AKC would update there website...or at least let you know those are the OLD signs and numbering..

I found the blue booklet effective 4-1-12, and there the #35 is the Call Front Return to Heel. :) I feel so much better, and thank you so much!!!

Looking at the show entry form, wondering if we should enter... I have to make up my mind by noon today or pay the on line entry processing fees...

If not this trial, there will be another, and another!

Callie's Mom, I'll see if my class will want to film this Saturday morning. They are normally good sports.
