Really squirming puppy to carry~

Deska went through a stage where he hated being carried - but it was more to do with wanting to walk himself than be carried wherever I wanted him to go. I agree with ontario - just keep carrying him. The only thing is check when you are carrying him - is it when you want him to go somewhere and he may want to do something else, in which case I would pick him up and carry him short distances (or even just for a cuddle) so he doesnt think being carried is always a bad thing.

It's mainly when I want to give a cuddle! He pretty much has free run of the house.He comes & goes to his crate on his own,and follows Trapp around like a shadow.

It's hard keeping up with them,so me trying to get a bit of smooching & cuddles...you know how it is.

But I am going to be working on this,and we'll get past it. Thank you bunchs~

Diva went though that phase as well. She would make grunting noises and kick with her back feet. She was too busy to be contained. :smile2:

Just keep working on it,he'll get better.

MY puppy does the same thing.. i wanna hold him and pet him and he wants to wiggle out of my arms and PLAY PLAY PLAY!!

Cranberry has squirmed a lot- he doesn't get down until he's calm though. He did squirm so much one time that he almost fell out of my arms- I did recapture him though. He's not too bad about it- he gets held and carried several times a day. I want him to be comfortable with it :smile2:

Haha, Megan was the same way, she still is to a point, bu like the others here, I keeo forcing my affections on her so she'll beused to it and desire it..

i force him to stay until he stops wiggling too... he needs to know i want some bonding time my way (petting and holding or sitting on the couch with me) and he will get his bonding time (playing and running around like a fool).

If he is tired he will jump on my lap and loves the attention but sometimes he (like all pups) is a ball of endless energy. My cousin brings her 1 year old pup over (silky terrier/Chihuahua mix) so they have a great time together and wear each other out. Even the 1 year old wears out before my Snickers ...but im happy he has buddies to play with. I try to enjoy his energy now because i know he wont be like this forever and i will miss the puppy experience.

Puppies go through phases on their willingness to be held...just like the fear phases. Try putting him BESIDE you on his side and keep a hand on his shoulder...to work on him "settling" with you. He won't feel as confined about it as he would if you were pinning him to you. You'll know he's relaxed to it fully when his wrists relax...you could "flick" his paws and they'd be limp.

Thank you for that tip.And I will give that a go.
He has though since Friday,made leaps of improvement though.I did the tip of not letting him down,and holding him and gently talking to him.

The first time,he was squirmy,and then he relaized I was not giving in,resorted to a minute of trembling,but then all of a sudden he was past it,and quite relaxed.

Today,we had no squirmy puppy,so I was really pleased.
