Recall Question (general, not competition)

With Cosmo I trained that HERE overrides any other previous verbal or hand command such as sit stay down ect, it an automatic ok or release from anything instructed before. I still practice this with him every day before going to work even after 2 years. If I use any thing else beside HERE, His Name, hey you, what you doing ect and he breaks a previous command then that's a Big No no, we go back to the pervious position and no treat, and Cosmo Lives for his treats Thank god. Actually I think he lives to please me.

I subscribed to Susan Garretts recall webinar (the free one) but have to remind myself to watch it at home, don't wanna get fired at work.

I may have to see if his Come command is poisoned or not, because honestly, that would be the easiest command. Miko has also been coming when I say Here to Koji, so I don't want to destroy his recall either.

Here's something I wanted to find out.
If Koji is, say 6 feet from me and I want him to come closer, would that be a recall, if he's already looking at me? Now, granted with a recall, we all know it should be so I can grab him, so yes, I want him closer. But do you think he's looking at me thinking, "hello Mom! I'm right here. I'm already here. Duh!" and that's why he just gives me this blank stare? lol.

Sigh. Must watch those videos. I stopped working on the recall for the past few days until I can watch them because I want to be sure his Come is poisoned because I much rather use that word than Here. No more training until Mom has her head on straight. :o

FYI for those interested in Susan's course. She writes on her blog, "Recalls 2.0 by 1 PM today (at the latest)"

It's open, but I didn't realize it was going to cost $300+ :eek2: :dead:

I don't think I can afford that. Oh well, I'll take what I can get from the free stuff.

I do think that 6ft away can be recall. It depends on how the dog perceives what a recall is. If its just a check in or 'here I am' kind of thing then 6ft away could seem silly. But I do 'come' to Deska if he is nearby and a car is around (to stop him chasing it). When I do a come I want him really really close to me, at least close enough I can snap on a lead. So our 'comes' mean come close so I can give you a big cuddle (or ruffle up your fur) so coming from 6ft away makes perfect sense.
