Because we live in rented houses, we are not able to bury ashes in the garden. Hamish died when I living away from home during the process of moving from one town to another. The vets looked after the body, but they did make a donation to the Pet Trust at the University of Guelp Vet School here in Ontario. Noah I had cremated through the humane society.

I am not a person who needs a special place to go to remember people or animals. I have the Shelties pictures on my desk and I do have their collars. Noah's toys I have not yet had the heart to go through to sort them out, having just lost him seven months ago.

When it is Emma's time, it will be the same. I will keep her picture and what I have to remember her by physically. But all animals I have loved and lost remain in my heart in a special place and from there I can remember them without having to have a place to go to mourn them.

Each of us chooses how best we can mourn and remember our beloved pets. It is for no one to say what is right or wrong for each person. We have to go with our hearts.

I think having a live-size Sheltie memorial to take with you would be a wonderful idea. Good luck in finding someone who can make it for you.

We have a nice area here, there is a large wishing well, and flowers planted all around.

When I lost Nick back in 2004,Brian made him a casket, and we buried him at the rental house where we were living.
I so wanted to have him cremated, but was not able to find a crematory, other than 1 in Florance SC,and they only did human. And the cost was astromnomical to have Nick cremated.

I found it quite strange that the state of SC does not have a pet crematory.
My intention was to bring nick back to NY,and put his ashes where my son is buried,as he was Scotts cat.

When we bought this house 3 years ago,Brian had made the promise to bring Nick wherever I was,so he went one day and brought him home,to his final resting place.
There is also an 8 week old cocker spaniel I fostered for 1 week. Both have cement head markers I made myself.

I had Jazz cremated. She has a small black tiger oynx marble urn and she sits on my desk in my office with her collar and tags draped over the urn. She was my first pet I had as any adult and the first that was 100% mine so I know exactly what Jessica is saying. She and any others after her will be buried with me.

Jo was also cremated and her ashes were spread around the desk at my parents house as that is where she like to lay and watch the world go by. Stretch the cat was also cremated and the ashes are at my parents house. I think my Mom was going to spread them somewhere but I don't think has yet.

Maddies ashes sit on a shelf next to where I sit to watch TV. She came back in a cute little tin that has paw prints on it, I put her picture on the side and put her collar and tags and the bandana she was wearing when she left us inside the tin. I like having the feelling that she is close, when I die she and any others will be buried with me.

Just a thought for everyone since we are on this morbid subject.:biggrin2:

Your local granite countertop company has a scrap pile which will probably let you rummage thru it for pieces.

I am sitting here crying my eyes out reading all your posts and all the different and special things you have done for your departed pets. Its so sad but at the same time so beautiful.

I have a stuffed angel sheltie in remeberance of Sprocket my first Sheltie and I have Busters my little mutt's collar they are both displayed in my entertainment center in the living room. And I have a memory album on my FB for Buster.

My afghan hound, Jasmen, and my first sheltie, Smantha were cremated. I have their ashes together in a nice oak box on my dresser. I have a little ceramic afghan hound and a sheltie on top. I promised my babies they would always be with me. This way, they are. Wherever I go, I can take them too. I will do the same for Katie and Laddie when their time comes. They will all be with me when I leave to meet them at the bridge.

I wanted to have Sassy cremated and have her ashes in a urn with a picture of her beside it. Dh would not have any of it becuase he wanted to remember the way she was. She did get cremated though and today her ashes are spread over a rose garden.
In remembrance of her, I got myself a small photo album and I only put the pictures of her in there.

We lost Cruiser to Cancer on May 18th. We both miss him so much. He was one of the closest friends we ever had. We've been married for 46 years and we have always had a dog. Sometimes two at one time .He's buried in the back yard facing the house so he can keep an eye on us.When he passed away every one who knew him sent us cards. We got more cards about how sorry they were to hear about him then we get for our birthdays or wedding anniversary's.I'm 68 years old now and every time I reach for my trucks keys I expect to see Cruiser doing his circles wanting to go for a ride.Or when he'd come up to my bed every Saturday at 7 am. to wake me up. I don't know why he did that but he did. My wife say's she wants to get another Shelty after the car show season is over in the middle of October. I don't know how I'll last that long. I told her that this time we're getting two Shelty's .She's not to happy about that. She wants a femalle this time and I want another male. So I told her that there names will be Adam and Eve. The breeder that we got Cruiser from Is going to breed and smaller size Shelty with Cruisers Father. So there should be a set of Puppies reading by then. Mine will be from a different set of parents.. We were at her place on MAy 19th. She has 10 shelty's. I laid on the ground and these guys were all over me. They seemed to know how I am feeling.I hope she does something soon because we aren't getting along as we did when we had Cruiser. June 13 th is our wedding anniversary 46 long years.

I bought a nice casket for Buttons when she crossed the bridge and soon after bought a curio cabinet for the memorial items. With Beamer I quickly made a casket. Because I was unprepared when those two crossed over, I wanted to have things ready for when Bows time was up. I bought a demolition drill, basically a hand held electric jackhammer to help me dig the grave. I also put more time into making her casket. I cleared out part of a wooded area for my Sheltie grave yard. I bought headstones for each and one day I might put a fence around it but I have to be careful, the township doesn't allow you to bury pets in the yard. I don't care, I want to be close to my angel babies.

Here's a picture of the grave yard sometime after burying Buttons. http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w206/tim15856/Our Shelties/grave1.jpg Beamer and Bows are there also.

Here's a small part of the memorial curio cabinet.

Yes, I used the granite cutouts for a bathroom sink as the base for two of their slate headstones.
