Refusing to potty?

Yes, it is a smallish yard (60x70) and fenced all around.

However, just this morning I had quite a scare when I called dogs in and came up one short ... then out of the corner of my eye I see a black and gray blur in the next door neighbors fenced yard! I ran through the house, out the front door and between the houses where I knew he could fit through the gate and called 3-4 times, nothing... so I ran back to the front door -- and there he was with Justus, looking at me like "what's wrong with you?"

So, wherever he wiggled out, he wiggled back in and I'm going to spend major dollars and labor this weekend to run hardware cloth down the complete side of that fence. It is a shadow box fence where the boards are staggered ... but not close enough! My other option, he does not go outside without me and on a long line... which I think I will do anyway, but it's getting brrrrr out there in the morning.

Have you considered that as he is maturing, he needs to potty less often?

I'm finding that with Callan. I used to find he was good for 4 poops per day. Now we seem to be down to 2, sometimes 3, but difficult to predict except for the morning. That's a given. I take him out probably 6 times per day, either in the backyard or walks. He will pee everytime, just because.....but poo, not so much.

Indy only poos once per day, rarely twice (usually at the cottage when he is running around more)

I don't think you said he was having accidents in the house? If not, don't worry about it. Just take him out on a regular schedule and he'll be fine.

Also, Callan will not do his business on a leash. I finally got him to it once this week. I didn't train him to do it, so he doesn't get it. Hopefully, I've now passed this hurdle.

Oh my gosh, that would be frightening! I'm glad he was just in the neighbor's yard and not on the street or anything!

He's definitely maturing and can hold it for longer (yay!) and morning and lunchtime are like clockwork. At night, though, he'll pace and pant and whine like he needs to go out, but when I take him out he won't go.

He's started to get better since starting this thread but it still takes him a few times of going out to actually potty. I think it's because I haven't been taking him to his 'normal' spot on the grass? But like I said, the grass is on the street, and I would rather not go out there when it's dark.
