Rescue Shelties

Currently, I only have one full sheltie, and one shelite mix (along with a cairn, two cats, and four guinea pigs!) All are rescues. Our beloved Sheltie Tommy passed away at 14yrs almost two years ago. We had taken him in at 12yr.

Tim-
Beamer is handsome! So many people shy away from adopting a senior. He looks so happy in the recent pic!

Thanks Snowy. He is a handsome boy. From some of the things he'd done, we think he may have been a bit abused before. But he certainly is happy here. And it didn't take long either. Here's a picture 3 hours after he arrived. http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w206/tim15856/Beamerathome.jpg As you can see, he made his self right at home.

Welcome Tim

You are an angel to those senior shelties!! Beamer is deffinately right at home. And I agree with Snowy most people do shy away from seniors , unfortunately i'm one because I'm afraid I'll get so attached and I'll always be crying because when they go to that rainbow bridge that's it I'm a goner tears a flowing.

I have been spoiled by adopting older dogs. Every dog I have taken in in the last ten years has come house trained  That is a definate plus!

my buddy

I recently adopted a Sheltie from a rescue! He is 5 to 6 years old! He has problem skin and cant eat wheat or corn! He is such a wonderful dog! We are doing well with his diet and still working on the skin! We go to my vet wed. for a check up! He has had yeast infection and its clearing up but any suggestions would be helpful!

I'm right with ya Elaine2004

I know what you mean, yet I would NEVER turn away a sheltie of any age I don't think I would go looking for an older one,
One of my 15 year olds just left me for Rainbow Bridge last September and I am still crying and will NEVER stop, my other 15 year old is starting to make me worry now.

Bless you ALL that rescue ANY sheltie young and old:sadsmile:

My shelties are not rescues, but my border collie is...I can't tell you what a pleasant surprise it was, after raising two puppies, to get a dog that was already crate, leash, and potty trained.

I have had two shelties from breeders, my bridge girl Ailsa and Arran my boy who is one, I also have a rescue sheltie Abby who we got 8 weeks ago and she is 8 years young. What an eyeopener, I never want to go to a breeder again nor do I ever want to have a puppy again , as much as I love and adore Arran I am far to old to go through that again. Our problem over here is that shelties are few and far between in rescue which of course is a good thing.

Hi,
We have 2 rescue shelties
We got Sadie when she was 6 and is now 14
and Lacey last year and she is 7.

We will always adopt a rescue in the future. My Sadie girl is 14 and I am already starting to worry about her age but she is a delight and made herself at home the day she arrived. Lacey is much more nervous but is such a sweetheart. Both were abused, we think. Both have responded with love, joy and devotion and we are SO blessed.
