Resorptive Root Lesions

My beautiful, otherwise healthy, 5 year old Sheltie, Kenzie, has resorptive root lesions. This was discovered during her first routine dental cleaning last October. One tooth was very loose so the vet x-rayed it and saw there was no root holding it in place. Now she has very inflamed gums and plaque building up again despite my use of Proden PlaqueOff algae flakes and VOHC toothpaste. Has anyone had an issue with resorptive root in their Sheltie? If so, please tell me how you treated it? Also, I live on LI but would travel to see a great dental specialist (because this is our next step). Her vet cautioned me that her teeth may need to be removed but I feel that is drastic and would like to find another solution. Thanks for any thoughts and suggestions!

I am so sorry to hear your poor Kenzie has tooth issues... I have never encountered it in my own dogs...
I had a wonderful experience with a canine dental vet. He is here in Michigan but I bet he could help recommend someone in your area.

My Shelties have all lost at least some teeth and poor Brooke lost most - her roots were calcified! I hope the specialist can help since your pup is fairly young.

Oh gee, poor Brooke! Thanks for your thoughts! I'm still searching for the 'right' dental specialist! I hope your pups don't lose any more teeth!
