Respiratory Disease

hello - I have another thread going in the "Medications" forum titled "Doxycycline..." but wanted to post a spin-off message here on the Disease & Illness board.

Does anyone have a dog that is being treated for respiratory disease? Our dog was diagnosed Friday after I took her in for a clicking and static-ky sound I heard about 2 weeks ago. Initially, i thought this was a side effect coming from using Doxycycline antibiotic for a tick-related disease. The vet has told me that, no, it would not cause breathing issues...so, we had a chest xray & EKG done Friday and one lung appears cloudy and the other is shaded but not as bad. The dog does not appear to suffer any distress other than the occasional cough or heaving sides upon laying down after a walk (which I think has to do with her overweight issue as well.)

The outside source that read the EKG recommended the use of steroids to treat the respiratory issue. Our new vet is holistic, but uses some conventional products -- but apparently not steroids. We are diffusing an essential oil recommended for respiratory illness/issues and using Standard Process Pneumotrophin PMG tablets. the vet is also ordering out some other product for us that I will pick up on Wednesday.

I'd be interested to hear if anyone else has a dog with a respiratory issue. Thank you in advance - and thanks for reading!

hmmm generally a "cloudy" appearance on an xray indicates some sort of fluid. Im not sure how old your dog is but the "fluid" can be many different things, could be a pneumonia, or fluid from the heart a sign of CHF (congestive heart failure)...either way id defiantly want more testing done and a more definitive answer...the static sound also makes it sound like fluid in the lungs...poor thing must be so uncomfortable...hope you get an answer from the tests soon...
