Rachel had Pike neutered at 6.5 yrs. Pike was a problem child. He would pick fights with the other dogs, be beside him self when a girl would go into season. I mean shaking, drooling, howling, not eating etc. Her husband thought he was dying one day,he was so dramatic. He peed on everything outside. He was not a big humper though never was.
He bit Grizz in the face, he bit Porter in the face, he bit Kramer in the face. Rachel thought of placing him but he was her first sheltie and her husbands favorite so he stayed. Pike was a highly trained UD dog so it wasn't lack of training and he was highly bonded to his people so the relationship was there. Pike was not the dominate type, he was a middle to low ranking male who would have like to have been the top dog but lack confidence to pull it off.
One night, he went after Grizz yet again and the Malamute went after Pike and grabbed him by the head and almost tore his ear off. Emergency surgery to repair the wound and Rachel said neuter him(he only needed 2 points to finish his Can CH so it was not done lightly). Almost immediately you could see the difference. I always said it was like he gave up trying to be the keeper of keys to the kingdom. The girls didn't interest him at all. He didn't even notice when one was in season. It has been almost 2 yrs and he hasn't started a fight since.
In my experience, not all dogs are so dramatic but with some it makes all the difference in the world.

That is exactly what I was thinking with Riley!!! Or maybe they didn't get all of his bits 
) and I basically sat outside the clinic (fretting) the entire time. They tried to send me home. There was construction going on upstairs and the drilling was so noisy I actually asked the vet if he could work with the noise, if not, I'll reschedule.
