It has been brought to my attention that rosemary in dogfood is causeing seizures. Of coure the ones I just switched to Acan and Now have it. The store I buy my dog food at was just telling me about it and is going to send me some info. I will pass it on when I get it. I know in some dog food it is very little but if your dog can be prone to seizures I would not think you would want to take the chance. It may be switching back to Wellness.

Thank you for sharing this. I had no idea and it's definitely something to consider on top of everything else we already consider (protein, grain, etc) and something to consider especially to those, as you say, with shelties prone to seizures already. Precious is still on Wellness, I'm glad for that. Will pass this on! Let us know more when you can!

I have found out today that their is a group of vets looking into this matter and right now it is a speculation that this is the cause of the seizures.

I read about this not too long ago. I think its Rosemary extract that is a problem because it is VERY concentrated. Rosemary on its own is probably fine.

I think this is comparable to the garlic debate. Garlic in reasonable quantities is good, but can be toxic in large amounts over a long period of time.

I add fresh rosemary to my dog's meals and its never been a problem. I've been doing it for years and know other people who do the same and no-one has seen an issue. Maybe it is just the extract.
