Rotating through Blue Wilderness formulas?

Indy is on Now! Senior grain free and has been for years. I've never considered rotating his diet because he us NEVER bored with his food! Little pig!

Callan is currently in TOTW puppy Hi Prairie. He likes it, his stools are good. And I like that protein level isn't crazy high. I've thought about switching over to Now! Puppy, but frankly, I figure if it ain't broke don't fix it.

I can't remember the protein levels in Natural Balance, but I DO caution against super high protein in Shelties, having lost Bacca in February due to liver disease at 6 years old. I do believe they are more susceptible. I would personally aim for about 28%.

Rotating food? Some dogs tolerate it well. Some people argue that rotating often keeps up the tolerance. That being said, some dogs just don't do well on certain proteins....chicken and beef usually.

But I would say try it.....you'll know soon enough if this is working or not.

So - 28% protein? I will definitely keep that in mind since I lost Trace at 4 1/2 to liver issues...do not want to ever go through that again!

Such a dilemma - after reading all the praises of TOTW I was leaning in that direction & went to Amazon, first to look at their prices, then to look into reactivating our Prime.

When looking at High Prairie, I saw a question/answer section...according to that, even though the food is produced in the US, they have 2 ingredients from China (taurine & folic acid). Also other products from other countries.

Hopefully this isn't true because I was excited about a good food at a decent price, but the comments state the information came from both TOTW's reply to a question on their FB page, and from a phone call to the company. The info was from March, April & May of this year. Apparently they started using those products after being sold to Diamond Pet Foods a few years ago?

Not sure what to believe now - just know I won't even consider feeding my babies anything from China. I need to dig deeper.

So frustrating!

Natural Balance is what we've been using. Had to get home and look at the bag before I could remember. The same co-worker who was the breeder recommended it to me, before I knew this board existed, and Callie has done fine on it. Having just looked it up online though, it looks like it's closer to 21% protein. Do I need to start freaking out that I'm feeding my sweetheart something that isn't good enough?

By no means do I want to freak anyone out! I just am getting so frustrated when trying to find the best food for my current dog and the new puppy I will be bringing home soon.

I'm thinking Trace's issues may have been genetic? Who knows.

If it is working for your dog, like Ashley says, then stay with it. Dog food choice is just our choice of what we want to feed our dogs. I have mine on Blue with Life Source Fish brand. I have no choice - Liam has to be on a low fat food because he had cholesterol issues, particularly cholesterol deposits in the eyes. They have cleared thankfully, but with other GI issues, I do not change his food around. He does not tolerate chicken. The two girls can eat anything but I have them all on the same food. Emma has lost some weight on it and is much more active. The vet is happy.

If your dogs are happy and healthy, you are happy and your vet is happy with their health, then stay with what you have. Rotating food is fine. I used to switch mine back and forth on a lamb-based and chicken-based food every bag, finishing one bag before starting the other - absolutely NO issues.

Maybe I will have to call TOTW and chew them out.

Anyone else have a buffalo recipe? Maybe lamb?

On the upside -- after switching to TOTW puppy Melli has lost another 1.6 pounds (from 39 on arrival to 34 even).

Life was SO much easier when I fed California Natural Lamb and Rice (till THEY sold and changed the formula too!).
