Round worm? HELP!

So my husband went to get Gizmo out of his crate this morning to take him outside, to find that Gizmo had peed in his bed. for the first time! (though thats not what this is about) So while my husband was cleaning up the crate and pulling the bedding out, he found a worm in the bottom of the crate. looking at pictures online, it looks like a round worm.
For quite a while now, Gizmo will switch between firm and soft poop, not diarrhea, just really soft sometimes. even in the same poop "session", the first piece will be nice and firm and the rest can be really soft. or his first poop of the day is firm and his second will be soft. he has been like this pretty much since we got him (he had been to the vet the day before we got him and had been de-wormed) so we havent thought anything of it, until lately. He seems to be having more soft poop, but will still have firm ones too. Will worms do this?
Now, what do we use to get rid of them? we are pretty limited by what we can get, just what our local petsmart has which is D-Worm Chewable Tablets or liquid, Safe-Guard 4 Canine Dewormers, or Virbac WormX Plus Tablets for Dogs. does anyone have any experience with any of these? or would you suggest something else? Edit: i guess walmart also has Hartz UltraGuard Plus Rid Worm Tablets.
Also, do we need to be weary of my daughter getting worms too? do we need to watch her? can these be passed dog to human?

I assume this is a puppy?

Roundworms are the easiest to get rid of. Whatever they have at PetSmart is probably fine. You can also add diatomaceous earth to his food, that will help.

I would take your puppy to the vet, just to make sure what type of worm. They can tell you right away, and prescribe what will be best to use.

Better safe then sorry, it can cost more not knowing the type of worm. Just a thought, hopefully he is rid of those things ASAP.

Its pretty easy to tell the differences in worms. Round worm look like spagghetti (sp?) and tapeworm looks like rice.

I get stuff from TSC that works good. I am suprised though usually heartworm preventative also gets rid of roundworm.

Yep my vet told me Inceptor rids of the worms if I had them around another dog that had them.

I never had worms, what do the whip worms look like? I like your descriptions.

I just remember when I brought my setters home from the breeders, it was late at night. They were pooping blood and I stayed up all night for the vet to open. We called the breeder too, and she nevered wormed the litter, we were not happy, other pups had the same trouble. They had round worms and whip worms. I never seen any their poo. That I thought was strange.

Its a good thing they could be seen. Hopefully all goes well.
