Does anyone here feed Royal Canin food? I'm think about switching Randy to the Royal Canin Calorie Contral High Fiber for his weight problem. Anyone have any experience with this line of food?

Capers has been on this since last May. It was prescribed by the vet for her irritable bowel disease. I tried to put Capers on Artemis (high end) last spring, but unfortunately the Artemis didn't agree with her.

I buy royal canin/medi cal hypoallergenic vet food for Sadie. She was having serious digestive problems that we couldn't seem to get to the bottom of, even with holistic food. Although its criticized heavily as not being high quality, it has completely stopped all of her problems, she's thriving on it, has a beautiful shiny coat and loves the taste so much that she acts like she's getting milk bones for a meal twice a day.
I'm not sure that I'll switch her to anything else since she's doing so well on it.

hmm now that you say that my girl that is on it does have quite the nice coat...not sure if its food related or genetics or the cold weather.....hmmmm

My daughter's boy, Flash, thrives on Royal Canin and my other daughter feeds her dachshunds Royal Canin breed specific dachshund formula and they are gorgeous. And My cats won't eat any other brand of cat food. Cats and dogs both seem to just LOVE the taste.

I fed Royal Canin to one of mine as a puppy for a while because of the protein content. No problems. I don't think it is that bad of food.
We're now on Blue Buffalo with everyone... but, it was just a personal choice.

Gio has been on Royal Canin twice in his life.
Once when he was younger, and it instigated his first epileptic attack.
A second time recently when he went into bromide toxicity which resulted in severe pancreatitis. After 7 nights in ICU at the local vet college, the vet sent him home on the Royal Canin "veterinary diet" Low fat food. After 3 weeks on the food, he developed a severe reaction to it: all the hair on his feet turned pink, his nose and eyes crusted over, his teeth turned orange (yes, bright orange), he had horrible diarrhea every hour or so, and flatulence that would knock out a cow. Needless to say, he is off that food now and back onto his home made diet. All the ailments cleared up instantly: diarrhea and flatulence stopped that same day, his nose and eyes stopped crusting over, and the hair on his feet is finally back to its normal white color.
Based on my understanding of canine nutrition, and based on personal experiences, I cannot recommend Royal Canin as a good quality dog food.

I'm a holistic person myself... which is why I do feed Blue to my guys as an all the time food... but, I've always though Royal Canin was an ok food, but if it does that to some sensitive dogs that isn't good at all.
I've honestly have gotten to the point where I think vet's are good for vacinations and emergency situations such as broken bones and surgery and not much else. I'd love to find a holistic vet in my area.

Ontario, I'd say leave Sadie on it!!
