He looks great! He looks like Missy when she tried it a couple weeks go.. speeding away on the obstacles.
I love the big shelties, btw.

Thanks! We're doing the weaves but not doing the weaves. They're the ones that are pulled out and then they slowly get pushed in closer and closer. He's not doing the full weaves yet. Do you think that's still bad for him to do?
If it were me, I would probably hold off for a few more months. The thing about channel weaves is that once he is ready you want to be able to quickly close the channels. The longer you linger once he has "gotten" a certain stage, I think the harder it is to phase out the channels/wires/guides.
I would wait a few months, then pick it up again. That way once he gets the idea you can move quickly to the next stages right away. Just work on targeting and driving ahead in the mean time. Having solid foundations will make weaving even easier for him when his body is ready.
How old do you think is old enough? I'm doing the channel weaves with Ida (10 months old), should I hold off too, or keep going?
yeah, my goal is to have him wait on it, but it was his first time concurring the A-frameRuutu looked like he was having so much fun. Looks like he'll make a grate agility dog.![]()
I noticed he tried to jump over his mark on the A frame. Maybe working a little on the 2o2o. Good job so far!![]()
He didn't jump off on the other side though, just didn't wait either
They're allowed to jump over it getting on it though. There are a lot of opinions about this. My trainer now doesn't even start her dogs until a vet has told her that her puppy's growth plates have closed. This can vary from around 10-14 months, I believe. A vet would likely know more.
With Lexi we started when she was exactly a year old--though she did go through a few open channel weaves in class. It just didn't make sense to push her through it when we would hit a wall and have to wait.
how can a vet tell?how can a vet tell?
Awe, thanks! I already do it with my female and love the sport. My instructor actually asked me yesterday if I'd run one of her corgis in Agility because she was running with me and not her. We only had two people show up for class yesterday due to the rain, so we kind of just goofed around, had puppy zoomies and had fun with itwhat a lucky fellow he is to have an owner who want to do agility - looks like he's really loving it!
