Sadie is suddenly paralyzed

I'm so happy to hear everything went well with your appointment. They sound like caring and honest professionals who are doing what they do for the love of animals. She told you exactly what you needed and didn't try to sell you a package you didn't need. I'm sure that made you feel more comfortable with all you have done to rehabilitate her on your own. You've done a great job. The $100. was well worth it for your peace of mind, and all the other therapy, exam etc. was just a plus.

You're in our prayers:wink2:

Two More Small Victories for Sadie

It was a busy week and while I did spend time rehabbing Sadie, I didn't spend the time I wished I had, that being said, Sadie is still showing small improvement.

Before her accident when I talked baby talk to her, Sadie would give me what I called her 'I love you' stretch, where she'd first strech her front legs and neck forward, then stretch her back legs out behind her.

Since her accident she stopped stretching completely for approx. 2-3 weeks. It just about broke my heart to see her try to stretch, stretch her front legs and then just about fall over trying to stretch her back legs. After that she started only stretching her front end.

The other day she started successfully stretching her back legs! Such a small thing but it means so much.

I've also finally weaned her off of the prednisone. I'll see at the end of the day how she's doing. I had her down to every other day for approx. a week so now we're going to see how she is without them.

My husband built a ladder for her to use for her rehab. He built it a bit tall and wanted to cut it down, but I had him leave it. Its hard for her, but she IS capable of getting over it and improves each time. I figured it would be more of a challenge for her if she was forced to lift all of her feet more than she'd normally have to, which could make walking normally seem easier. Is my thinking right or should I let him lower it?

I'm so glad to hear she is improving. Great news! I hope she continues to do well off the prednisone. Can you take a pic or video of her using the ladder? I'd be curious to see how you are doing this.

Always in our prayers..

I plan to, I just haven't had the chance yet. I'll try to get a video of it tonight. :smile2:

Thanks for the update on Sadie. I'm always glad to hear about her making some progress no matter how small.

Regarding the ladder, you could make two sets of legs for it, the tall set it has now and one maybe 1/3 shorter to get her started. This is, of course, assuming you didn't glue the pieces together. (We tend not to glue our PVC training pieces because they are easier to store and/or travel with if we can break them down. We only glue where we have to for safety.)

If its glued, then just work with it as-is; just don't do as many repetitions when you first start.

Funny you should mention that. My husband thought he could build it without looking at the directions and while he remembered that it was supposed to be in two pieces, he forgot that the feet were supposed to be removable. So no, the legs can't be removed. :rolleyes2:

I glad to hear Sadie is doing so well and that she is almost off the pred. You have done such great work with her. :smile2:
