What I do, is when the dog is lying down, is to raise a leg and then brush the tummy.When one side is done, I flip them over to the other side and repeat. Once both sides are done, I make them stand and then give a quick brush over, while holding onto the collar.

I find it easier to groom Bailey when she's tired out and laying down. It's much easier to trim those paws when she is sleeping. However, as you saw in her "what happens when I try to sleep" video, Bailey doesn't tire out very easily, so I usually have to use the grooming table.

I like the idea of putting a spray bottle near her butt, so she can't sit down. I'll try that next time.

These are great ideas! I've never had a problem with my guys standing on the grooming table thankfully, but how oh HOW do you get them to lie down and let you do their stomachs?! I am always bending and trying to see underneath them and I never feel like I get the tummies done well.

Sca sleeping while I brush him will only happen if he is drugged. To make him stand I just put my arm under him, once up he tends to stay for a bit. To get his stomach I just lift his front paw while he stands then swap sides.

Yep, just like that, except the final step is I flip them on their backs and brush down the middle of their tummies. They like this part....its like a belly rub! The most difficult part is to keep them from squirming in ecstasy at this point!

Thanks guys. Mine treat laying down on the grooming table like a trip to the vet's. NOT happening! We'll have to work on that. Maybe I'll start on the couch.

I'll often put a sheet on my bed, and groom them there. Then we are all comfy and they often snooze through it! No hard floor...much easier on the bum! (mine that is!)
