Sandstorm has chewed the baseboard, trim while I'm at work, have to crate :(

Funny you should mention the loungeroom. Deska was exactly the same. I used to fence him into the dining room and he would howl and carry on, but when I let him into the loungeroom he settled down. Maybe they feel like the lounge is the main den seeing as its the place they usually spend the most time with the family.

The breeder objected to the crate? That's a first!

There is not a breeder that I know of who does not appreciate the value of crate training.

Weird!
She approved of crate training, but not leaving him in one for the whole work day, she felt that 7 hours would be too long to stay in a crate. She uses an x-pen.

Ok, that makes more sense, and I agree. I put Bacca's crate inside his xpen with the door open once he was house-trained (but not necessarily chew trained). This allowed him some extra movement, and access to water and toys.

I haven't gotten an x-pen yet. I am afraid he will chew the floor!! :eek2:
Evan if I put the x-pen in the living room with the crate, we have a wood floor that is painted. I'm afraid the crate will have to do. It is the only time he is in it. At night he is in our room at the foot of the bed. He doesn't chew anything while in our room because he is with us. During the summer it will all be different, as I have 10 weeks off, I work in a school, so I'm glad we have all those school vacations!! So is the dog!
