Sandstorm will be crated again when I am working- 7 hours daily

Sandstorm, Colonel Underpants here. It's ok, guy! You just need to rest in the barracks in the daytime until your people come home. Its all part of being in the Sheltie Corps! Salute smartly and thank your lucky stars your Mom and Dad love your so much! :yes:
 
My three are crated at least 8 hours a day. they do sleep the day away until I get home. The pumpkin pups will be 2 yrs in Nov- Dixie is still a chewer, Cran might be ok out but not ready to go there yet. Callie had freedom until she started to get into stuff that she never bothered before. All get treats in their crates when I leave and the pups can get in there so fast you better not blink. Callie actually would go to her bed in the living room for leaving treats so I still tell her that she's a good girl when she does that and then tell her to go in her crate for her cookies.
 
I definately get you not wanting to let an adolescent dog roam free. Who knows what he will get into.

Mine were confined in the dining room until they were over 1yr old and then confined to the dining and lounge until they were two. And they were only confined rather than crated because Deska just could not be crate trained. I was often out for 10hrs so they just had to save up their energy until I got home, then they got long walks and training.

Besides, dogs sleep about 15hrs a day so he will just be getting a lot of his sleep while you are out.
 
Karen, you won't get any criticism from me. My dogs were crated for up to 10 hours a day until just recently (this past winter to be exact) and they are both twice Sandstorm's age. At 2 years old I couldn't leave Edan out all day because we'd come home to who knows what. (We didn't have CJ when she was 2 but I know her breeder kept her crated while she was at work also.)

Most dogs curl up and sleep when they are crated. They definitely stay out of trouble and won't get into things that can hurt them - like cell phone batteries. YOU have to do what is best for your dog. Ignore anyone who tells you you are being cruel.

I was home and doing yard work and chores Sunday. So all day Sca felt he had to watch me or we were playing Frisbee. He was one worn out dog that night since he did not get his 5 hour power nap that I am sure he takes during the day :lol:

The problem is, he is crated in the a.m., after he has slept all night! That's why I feel bad. We have time for a 5 minute fetch session before I go to work, that's it. But you're right, we have to bring home the premium dog food! :yes:

This is a great point! But it would be nice if the ambulance and fire people could find my house. :eek2:
I wish I lived on a road! :lol:
