Say what?

I had a first today. I took the pups to an off leash preserve overlooking the ocean because it's a bit cooler up there. There were tons of folks out with dogs due to the holiday. One very nice man ooh'd and aah'd over the dogs and then proclaimed them "dwarf collies". I have to say I took a bit of offense to that although I just said "No, they're Shelties." Good grief! That's a new one on me!

Mini-collies. Of course Sca just got Aussie since the person did not realize there was other colors than Sable. Spitfire gets 'girl' since he is smaller than all the others are/were. No reason to be offended and remember they bred rough collies in with the island dogs.

More important was there pets or treats involved?

Geez, what will they come up with next? I hear a lot of the mini Collie thing but by the time I get done detailing the long history of the Shetland Isles etc etc etc my listener's eyes are usually rolling back in their head. At least I know they won't make that mistake again! :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

I definitely get the mini Aussie comment on Juno because of her coloring. It always amuses me because obviously she looks exactly like the other two except for her color. Anyone who knows they are Shelties, I tell them they get brownie points for knowing that!
