Saying Hi from Central Florida

I can't believe it. Here I am a 70 year-old man from the tough corporate world and I am crying so hard. Up until 2 years ago I didn't even take an aspirin, I was fit and well. Now I am on a cocktail of 27 different meds round the clock to keep my heart ticking. I am just beginning to learn to use the word "disabled". It's so hard.

I need a buddy. And I hope I can find a dog that needs a buddy too.

AMAC -- thank you for the encouraging words, and Internette (love that name), thank you for sharing Chauncey's story. You both give me hope.

I am in Central Florida about 45 minutes south of Ocala.

I was recommended to go to Mid Florida Sheltie Rescue in Palm Bay. They have several adult Shelties available. I filled out an application this morning. There are a couple Shelties there that are so beautiful. What am I talking about? All Shelties are beautiful, some are just more beautiful than others. :wink2:

"Disabled" is a mindset not a label. Nor is it a badge of courage. It's just a medical classification. I work with a bunch of "disabled" kids fresh back from war that just climbed Kilimanjaro. If their physical shortcomings don't stop them we can't let it stop us.

On most days I do more than most of my able bodied friends do. Don't let it get to you. Hey at least the partings good!

I wish you nothing but the best with your new dog. Trust me it will be a great experience for both of you.

Opps almost forgot the tears. Funny how a challenge softens up even toughest of us. Embrace it.

Yep, I woke up on the green side of the grass this morning. :eek2:

Can't do much, but what I do is for the good.

I am leaning toward a young adult male sable Sheltie that I can train into a good citizen.

Larry...believe me you WILL find a dog that needs a buddy. There are so many wonderful little dogs in rescue that desparately need a second chance to have someone to love and care about them. Just take your time and find the right fit for you. You will be doing as much to brighten the life of a littlle dog in need of a home as that little dog will be doing to brighten your life...it is a win-win.

I use to live in Florida, in Sarasota.
I hope that you find the perfect pup, I am sure there is one out there right now that needs to find a loving home.
