I have absolutely no useful suggestions, but found this thread very interesting. Callie doesn't particularly like strangers, but most of the time once they've been in the house 5-10 minutes or so she warms up to them. We have one friend who doesn't like dogs very well, and of course I can't keep Callie away from her. She happily jumps up by the non-dog loving friend, and I have to keep telling her to get down.
We have another friend named Tim, however, who lives in our neighborhood and has 2 dogs of his own. Callie is absolutely terrified of him -- and I don't think it's from the smell of the other dogs, as his wife has been over and Callie is fine with her. When Tim is over she literally cowers on my lap. He came over one night to watch a football game with us, and I had to move from my regular chair and go sit on the other end of the couch from him to get Callie to go anywhere near him, and even then I had to take treats to get her to approach the couch. There's just something about him that she doesn't like at all -- and I have no idea what.
