Seems to me our Fainly is going to be quite large. Weight/heigh at 20 weeks compared to adult size?

When we picked Fainly we knew we wanted an oversized Sheltie if possible. Fainly seems to be that when I look at other dogs' sizes. I also see that adult size is difficult to predict. But despite having had Giardia from the time we got him from the breeder at 9 weeks he weighs 21 pounds and is 17 1/4 inches tall, as I measure him from the shoulder. Is this unusually large, and should we do anything special to protect his bones? Thanks in advance for any advice or answers.
 
Fainly does sound like he will be the bigger Sheltie you were hoping for!

Kip full grown, is just about 17” (he’s a wiggly boy, hard to measure) and 22.8 lbs. So Fainly will probably be bigger than Kip?

To protect his bones, make sure he is not overweight, don’t over feed him, avoid jumping and repetitive exercise. For example, no jogging. It’s totally fine if he runs around a lot on his own, because he can set his own pace and take breaks. Grass is the best to run on. Slippery floors are very dangerous.

That sounds pretty big for a 20 week old pup. Just more to love. Yep, no repetitive exercise like jogging with a person or agility jumping until over a year old, maybe a bit longer with males.
 
Wow...you sure you don’t have a Collie there lol? You could get X-rays done when he’s around a year or so to make sure the growth plates have closed. I also give my dogs green lipped mussels as a preventative...omega 3’s, natural glucosamine and chondroitin.
 
My Larry is 39lbs of muscle. He's a big spectacular boy. My Bryan is smaller and 36lbs. Both are great weights for their build, the vet thinks they're amazing. Larry was about the weight yours are when he was Fainly's age. You can see in the pictures in my profile that's he a big'un! (these two pictures are of Larry. Bryan is also in the other pictures, you can see the size difference)

We let him run and play in the yard but kept it pretty mild until he was a year. Good long walks worked great. He's huge and just amazing. More to love! Lucky you!
