Sensitive Stomachs

Just curious if it's my Jasmine, or do a large number of Shelties have sensitive stomachs? Seems like she's on constant ProPectalin to keep her from having diarrhea all the time...

Both mine have sensitive stomachs. Deska always had a sensitive stomach - but I think a lot of his stomach problems was from eating junk off the ground and raiding the bins and benches. Nowadays they both have sensitive stomachs from being on pain medication. I don't think Tully would have a sensitive stomach otherwise.

My dog recently had surgery and while looking at the ultrasound, the surgeon discovered that his gallbladder was partially blocked. She said that this is common in Shelties. She removed his gallbladder while she was taking care of his other issue. She told me that gallbladder issues cause vomiting and diarreah. Another Sheltie parent wrote that her Sheltie was recently put on medication for a gallbladder issue.
Also wondering if your vet tested a stool sample from Jasmine?

I think it's more common for them to have an intolerance to something than just a general sensitive stomach. Just curious, have you tried new foods, maybe with a different protein or limited ingredient?

Mine seems to have a beef intolerance, although he's eaten liver treats with no issue... typically even just a couple of small bites of beef and he will have diarrhea for a day or two but he doesn't seem too sensitive otherwise... Unless he eats a non-food item.

Same, Missy seems to have a beef intolerance. Other than that she doesn't seem to have a sensitive stomach. My first sheltie, on the other hand, had a more sensitive stomach. She got pancreatitis when she was 5 or 6, and after that she really couldn't tolerate certain foods. I don't remember if she had sensitivities before that.

Olive has food intolerances (chicken, rice, wheat...) and she digests food quickly and when her stomach is empty, she throws up bile. I think sensitive GI fits her more than just stomach.

I don't feed Liam chicken - he doesn't do well on it. I have added a probiotics daily to their food and find this has made a big difference.

Deska has a problem with chicken and turkey too. I do give him a little chicken each day to wrap his tablets in, but if he has chicken as a meal he starts chewing grass. When he was young I had him on Eagle Pack chicken kibble and he was sick all the time, ended up stopping giving it to him. It wasn't until years later that I realised it was chicken that was upsetting his tummy. Poor boy though, chicken is his absolute fave meat.

We would all be in big trouble if Missy's stomach didn't tolerate cheese. She goes crazy for cheese...
