Shampooing

Hi Everyone. Thanks for all your helpful answers to me earlier questions.

I am very new at this I have only owned a sheltie(rescue) for about 8 months and am eager tolearn as much as I can about the breed and showing.
Recently you advised me that the white on white shampoo is an effective product. My boy is a tri colour and I would like to know if I should use this shampoo all over his body or just on his white bits .This will be his first showing in March and I am anxious to get it right.

Just use the white on white on the whites...ruff and legs. But you don't need to worry if you get some on his darker fur; it won't hurt it. I like Chris Christensen's Spectrum One shampoo and conditioner for the rest of the coat. It's made for rough coats and won't soften them. They do also make shampoo for black coats though...you might want to look at that.

Just an FYI on the CC Black on Black. If you get it on the white it will stain it slightly. Shampoo and lather up the white first and then the black and rinse down and away from the white. I prefer Biogroom ultrablack myself. But I love the CC Spectrum One system-shampoo, substance builder and then conditioner.

Thanks for clarifying that, Shelli. I have sables so I've never had experience with the black on black. Just the Spectrum One and I also love the Substance Builder!
 
Just go buy some cheap Suave clarifying shampoo. It does the job, and you don't have to worry about it. Brushing is more important than shampoo.
 
Just make sure you rinse it all out...I had to put Sansa back in the shower 3X last night after I kept finding pockets of lather on her that managed to avoid being rinsed out by a bath AND very thorough shower spray.
 
I don't recommend ever using human shampoo on dogs. The pH is different and can dry or damage a dog's skin. Always use a shampoo made for dogs.

I didn't know about the bio-groom stuff! I will have to try that as an alternative to black on black.
