Shaved Sheltie

*gasp*

DREADFUL!!!

Caliber after tonight has the WORST case of burrs I have ever seen. Not even big burrs that are easy to brush out...those really annoying green little ones that stick like super glue. I was telling my friend about it and he's like "Just just them out" I was like :eek2: ARE YOU KIDDING ME!?!! He them went on about how his uncle clips his Shelties hair when they have something stuck in their fur. I was like noooooooooo!!! NEVER!! I would try everything there was before I took scissors or clippers to my Shelties anywhere but their feet! The thought scares me!!! Poor, poor Sheltie

I've had a hunk of sewing glue stuck in Replyka's head for WEEKS now...and I can't even cut it out(even though that's about the only way it WILL now, because there's so much) but I can't stand the thought!! Ultimately in the end I will have to...because I know it will grow back...she's only 14 weeks old.

TaraLynn go to a pharmacy and purchase Uni-Solve Adhesive Remover. It's used for dressing/tape removal for humans. I used it to remove leftover glue from ears when I would re-fix them. And I had big chunks, especially at first. This is what the breeder recommended. It is kind of spendy and hard to find. But it did remove the glue the breeder gave me which was some kind of heavy duty tarp repair glue. Just don't get it in your dog's eyes.

OMG! I had exactly the same issue with Bacca when I was still gluing his ears. I was so zealous about making sure those ears were not going to move, that I created the Berlin Wall between his ears. I had no choice but to cut it out, then still could not get at all the glue without totally demolishing his ears. I found Detachol - a bandage adhesive remover. It worked amazing - and no odor. (I had to order from eBay).

Unfortunately, I'd cut so much hair, I could not reglue his ears again for some time. I tried once more, then finally gave up.

I agree - don't cut the hair unless you have absolutely no choices left.

Which is why I'm just going to leave it for now. It's right at the base and almost behind her ear...so it's not like it's a huge deal or anything. Aaaand it doesn't bother her...not much does! LOL Oh. except for that god awful brush!

OMG I would NEVER, and have NEVER shaved my Shelties. I was under the impression that their coats are designed to keep them cool in summer (keeping OUT hot air), and warm in winter (trapping warm air and insulating).

As long as you keep them brushed well in summer, their undercoat comes out and they end up with a lighter coat anyways. I've never had my Shelties get over heated in summer, and I live in the midwest which CAN be brutal. I also make sure they have shade to retreat to and plenty of fresh cool water to drink. I think it's just lazyness when people shave them, they don't want to have to brush out the shedding fur.
