She has bad breath.

I'm posting this here because she isn't even four months old yet. She loves to eat poop yuck :dead:. So you can imagine what her breath smells like. So we want to use some tooth paste to help with the bad breath. There are so many to choose from. She still has her baby teeth so its not so much to prevent cavities but for her breath. Do they make a breath spray? I guess we can use a small child's soft tooth brush?

She never eats it out side. Just when she does it on the paper in the kitchen. Do you think she wants to hide the evidence?

Hi. I would get rid of the papers in the kitchen, unless you live in a high rise apartment, papers aren't necessary. We use toothpaste here, any yummy dog flavor will do. We use a long toothbrush, Sandstorm loves it

Ooh yuck. That's never pleasant. Yeah I would remove the papers too. Just keep a close eye on her. You could probably do some training there too. Give her a treat (clicker, if you have it) anytime she leaves it alone. Who knows when she'll actually start going for poopsies outside.

I actually have heard of dog breath spray, but I'm a bit weary of those. I'd imagine that to be uncomfortable to administer for the dog. A friend of mine uses an old tooth brush on her sheltie. There are even peanut butter tasting toothpastes that make it addictive to the dog. Don't you wish we had that? Make sure to ease into the tooth brush so she sees it as a fun experience.

I'd be teaching her to have her teeth brushed. You can't start too early. You can use a baby toothbrush or I buy cheap long dog toothbrushes from the discount shop. But you will need to invest in some doggy toothpaste. Mine get my teeth brush regularly but esp after a bush walk because they like to snack on kangaroo poo on our walks. Blah, no kisses until the teeth are clean.

I use a peanut butter flavoured t-paste for Treesa ... and a long handled brush. One end is long like an ordinary t-brush other is smaller and angled. I also us a dental rinse which foams . Treesa doesn't love it but seems happy when its over and she is feeling peanut buttery minty fresh .... :wink2: With a little one you could use the finger brush which is really gentle and gets them used to you going into their mouth.:biggrin2:

I wouldn't want her to get used to eating poop. I can't imagine that is healthy, and it's disgusting besides. We live in a condo and never did paper/pad training, I didn't want Buffy to get used to going inside or being around her poop. A lot of times this habit starts when they are puppies and it is REALLY hard to break. I remember watching an "It's Me or the Dog" where they had a heck of a time doing it.

If she is by herself leave her in a crate. They will rarely soil a crate. Or maybe your dog needs to go out more often, like every hour or two. When Buffy was a puppy, we got a dog walker during the day when we were gone. I don't know, Buffy licks me sometimes and she sleeps in our bed in the mornings and on the couch, I wouldn't feel comfortable if she did that and she had poop breath and wasn't clean. She also licks other things, like the couch or the seats in the car. Or her toys, and then they are left around. Eww, I'm shuddering at the germs if she had that on her breath.

We use Petrodex toothpaste (I brush her teeth pretty much every night) and I have also experimented with putting stuff in her food and water. Right now I have Proden PlaqueOff and Pet Kiss (breath freshener and tooth cleaner) in the cupboard and I try to remember to put them on her food. Buffy's breath is not bad at all.
