Shedding heavily in Fall?

I tend to concur that shedding with Labs is worse than shedding with Shelties.

Mostly, when my guys shed....it just stays in their coat until I brush it out. With short hair dogs, you can't even pet them without having to shake your hand off and dander flying everywhere! btw I'm only allergic to short haired breeds

Give me a double-coated breed everytime!

Is it only if they are blowing coat that you get hair everywhere blowing them with a force air dryer or all the time? I recently bought a forced air dryer and have done mine 3 times since I got it. Granted, I am still keeping it down fairly low (it has a variable speed switch) but I do not have hair blowing all over the place. I was assuming this was because they are well brushed out to start with. Should I be seeing fur flying?

you will know..you will think your inside a snow globe if they are blowing coat and you dry them with the metro Brushing washing..etc first wont cut down on the amount that flies once its on.

OK, thanks. I keep hoping to see fur flying (less to brush) but I have yet to have it happen. I was not sure if the fur just was not there because they had been brushed, if my "drying technique" was wrong, if I needed to get the dryer up to a higher speed, or if it only happens when they were blowing coat. Each time I turn the dryer up a little higher (as the dogs get used to it) hoping to see the fur go, but, so far, nothing. Of course, no mess to clean up that way.

This is why living in CA is sometimes nice. My dogs tend to shed year-round, with yes, heavy blowing twice a year, but OMG, I don't think it's anything like yours. They also don't get heavy winter coats like the ones I've seen in your photos. And even the dogs in CA that have thick heavy coats, it's like that year-round, doesn't get overly worse during winter.

I think the year-round of sunshine helps.
Now, I have to go brush Miko because I swear he's just falling apart. hehehe. I already brushed out Koji and didn't realize I had a new puppy.
