Shedding

My sheltie will be three in October, and he has never really shed much except for this summer. He has been shedding like crazy and that has made his already skimpy coat even skimpier. Since I have never been through shedding like this, can somebody tell me if his coat will come back in? Will it be thicker/nicer? What has everyone's experience been?

It depends on their lines how much coat they carry and how they mature into their adult coats. Now with that said everyone is shedding an excessive amount this summer due to the hot weather. Now that it's starting to cool down at night the shedding should be slowing down.

My boys are both just over 3 years old and we are finally getting into shedding here. I've bragged for so long that my boys never shed, well, no more!

It's actually a good thing. Indy finally looks like he doesn't weigh 300 lbs anymore. He finally look lean and fit.

But yes, its a pain. If you have hard floors, then Swiffer Dry is a miracle. For carpets, its vacuum, brush, vacuum, brush and brush again.

One thing you can do is either bathe the dog or give him a good wet down with a hose. Towel dry and then brush. This will loosen alot of coat and let you get at it before it gets to you! :wink2:

We were two weeks ago in full blow coats here, but it was due to them being under anesthesia from neuters. But giving warm baths often solved the problem totally.
My guys get brushed every day, just a nice gentle brush thru, they really expect it,and I love doing it.So I think that helps as well.

One thing I did do the last bath,is use what is now my forever shampoo & conditioning system.Goodbye CC..Isle of Dogs is fab!It is a bit pricey, but I will tell you,I will use this faithfully from now on.

I never saw my shelties coats so beautiful,as when they were after using Isle of Dogs. Will be ordering thier masque formula,to use just as I did with CC Ice on ice.
