Shelby is sick

been checking for updates all day. it sounds so similar to when my boy was in the ER in January.
I ended up with...no answers. just either a viral or bacterial infection?
anyway, I am glad shelby is doing OK. I know Gavin has some slight sludginess, but at 16 we are just doing milk thistle.
Give her some loves and pats from me and Gavin

I'm so happy to hear the good news about Shelby! Ursidol has helped several of my dogs with sludge; Checkers and Lacey still eventually needed their gallbladders removed to eliminate the mucocoles that were forming and both did wonderfully well. Checkers had her gallbladder surgery at age 11.

If your vet hasn't suggested it, we do regular follow-up ultrasounds to keep tabs on the sludge in the dogs that have it, from every three months to yearly depending on the dog. I ultrasound all of mine at least yearly starting at age 5.

I hope Shelby recovers quickly and is back to normal soon!

Now she has diarrhea . And vomited at lunch time. I am thinking it is from the ursodiol. My vet gave me a 14 day course of Flagyl and Cerenia as needed. She said if this doesn’t help we might have to decrease the dose of ursodiol. Other than that she is acting perfectly normal.

So we had to shave her poor fluffy butt after work today, it broke my heart because she has such a thick coat of fur. But it was too hard to keep her clean and I don’t want a UTI on top of everything else. I think she is sad that she keeps messing herself.

Shelby was vomiting at 4 this morning, she was lethargic, panting and shaking had to be carried outside and would not eat - she is very food motivated.

To make a long story (and day) short she had elevated liver enzymes and blood sugar and an enlarged liver. Found a radiologist to do an urgent ultrasound. Which showed masses on her liver, adrenals and one kidney. And sludge in her gallbladder. We did a liver biopsy and should have the results in a few days. And we started treating the gallbladder.

We are finally home know, she did eat hamburger and rice with no issues. But she is still very lethargic, which could also be from the sedation they gave her.

We have been crying all day. We are not ready for this, she is only 12 and was 100% norms, last night. We did nose work and she played with her collie friend. Running around like she was 2 years old. It has happened so quick.

We are hoping the biopsy comes back negative.
